"sanctity of marriage" by his endorsement of the Federal Marriage Amendment is, besides the fact that he said he's in favor of permanently keeping gays and lesbians as second class citizens....

Is the fallout if this amendment passes. I'm convinced that this won't just affect gay marriage and civil unions and domestic partnerships...which is bad enough.

This will embolden the right wingers to launch an assault on anti-discrimination inititaves passed all over the country. Gay rights laws in states, counties and cities would be targeted for repeal. Hate crimes legislation would be dead. The right of gay and lesbian couples to adopt would be dead as well.

This is an ugly, ugly can of worms here. A Pandora's Box of hate just waiting to be unleashed.

It might sound like paranoia. But I didn't get much sleep last night because of the unprecedented call of bigotry last night in the SOTU. And with the crowd running this country right now, I'm not taking anything for granted.

On a serious note however, I am sick to think that the US Constitution would be used to discriminate against fellow Americans. 13. Comsidering the "sanctity" of marriage--

I'm a straight, female, married Christian. My "married" (wish I didn't have to put that in quotes, but of course, they aren't legal) gay friends don't threaten me in the least.

I am threatened by easy divorce and the absolute sham of annulment--where's the concern over that? Seems to me that sanctity has disappeared long ago with people going in debt over a 20 minute ceremonythat they often forget is meant to last a lifetime. When the glow is gone and the grim reality sets in the "sanctity" flies out the window.

I've been happily married for 8 years now, never divorced or annuled, btw.
