Oops - I think I shocked the guy calling to raise money for Mark Dayton
I received a fund raising call for Mark Dayton's 2006 campaign tonight (bad timing - I just spent nearly $300 on the car today - I was going to ask if Mark could contribute to that.)

I digress, part of the guy's spiel was "Bush will do anything to keep Mark from returning to the Senate.." I couldn't help it, I just blurted out "If that's true, then tell him to stay out of small planes." The guy on the other end of the phone was speechless. I finally said "I'm sorry, I'm being cynical and paranoid, pray continue." He stammered a bit then picked up where he left off, repeating "Bush will do anything to keep Mark from returning to the Senate." A phrase that really makes me shiver.

1. That is chilling to think about.
Maybe they will take heed. You may have given them a better contribution than money.

2. Who is running against him?
I've been getting these calls too, but just not able to take them at the time they call, and they don't want to give a number to call back.
Who are they going to run against him, how does Dayton do here in favorability? I'd like to help - I just don't know much as we live in NW MN and get Canadian and ND news for local news.

3. No one has declared yet
(remember we're talking 2006). The odds are on conservative Republican Congressman Mark Kennedy. He ran the most obnoxious ads in 2002 with his siblings discussing how wonderful he is and calling themselves the "Minnesota Kennedys".

I suffered a complete mental disconnect a few months ago when I saw story in the Strib headlined "Kennedy Expected to Take on Dayton". My first thought was - did Mark do something to upset Ted and whose side should I take? I have a similar brain spasm whenever there's a headline in the local paper about the "Minnesota Kennedy" because it's always something 180 degrees from what Ted would do.
