John Ashcroft sued by Canadian citizen in New York court
Edited on Thu Jan-22-04 02:34 PM by glarius
It seems a bit odd to me that a suit lauched against John Ashcroft has not been mentioned on CNN!.....This story has been in the news here in Canada for quite a while but I wonder how many of you Americans know about it....Mr. Arar was arrested in New York and deported to Syria where he was tortured for over a year....There are questions about the Canadian authorities and if they had any part in it which we are waiting to find out....Today Mr. Arar filed the lawsuit in a New York court...

P.S.....I heard a little while ago on TV, that the American Ambassador to Canada is on record as saying that the Canadian authorities had no part in this....We shall see

1. It was just on "60 Minutes II" in the States last night
Will someone PLEASE explain to me how a Canadian citizen, carrying a Canadian passport, could be deported to Syria and not Canada?! Apparently, at least in the eyes of Asscroft and his ilk, Canadian citizenship only applies to white people... may a thousand calico cats seek warmth in the lobby of the Department of Justice headquarters and wind their furry selves around his legs!

2. This is one more upsetting piece of news...
Not complimenatary to Canada, either, but at least their news resources are not buring it.

I guess if no one watched 60 Minutes II, it would remain entirely unmentioned. I would like to see a clip from this show.

Thanks for posting this.
