...so what have we had happen?

A bombardment and invasion of Afghanistan in retaliation and blame for 9/11. An ousting of the Taliban who, prior to 9/11, were intransigent in cutting oil exploration deals with Bush. We now have a cropping up of US military bases in correlation with proposed oil pipeline right-of-ways. And a puppet gov't (Karzai) with oil ties installed in Kabul. Kabul is purportedly secure, the rest of Afghanistan is a rural, military-tribal war-zone.

An imagined threat cooked up from Iraq packaged and sold to the American people on the basis of national survival against a nuclear attack. Result: Oil fields secured, country in dis-array and on the verge of "balkanization". Divide and conquer.
