My conservative friend finally gave up on Rush!

He told me he's tired of people getting away with these things.
He did bring up Clinton's perjury (I rolled my eyes at that), but he then told me a shocker: "I'm seriously considering looking at the Democratic candidates."

Turns out he can't stand the Medicare bill, Bush*s new immigrant policy, and the PATRIOT Act. And the more he looks, the more he's starting to hate Bush*s policies.

Now I will say this: The tide is starting to turn. I never would have believed it until now.

And he told me he's never listening to Rush or any other RW talk radio anymore.


Anyone else out there have any friends or family who've started to actually question the Repubs?

My folks are both lifetime Dems and so are me and my sisters we trusted them and they educated us. Looking back I think they were qualified. Dad's professor emeritus Sociology, Mom worked as an editor and reporter till she just couldn't take the changes that happened to our hometown paper as a result of NYTimes taking over the paper. Sometimes it's a good thing to listen to your parents.

I seriously doubt that any conservative would be so disloyal as to actually vote AGAINST an incumbent conservative. These guys vote, eat, drink, fuck, act, hate, and shit in lockstep. Maybe they have doubts, and maybe they're starting to open their eyes, but come november, It's unlikely we'll see that translate into votes...IMHO.

Nothing is written in stone. A new congress can make a lot of changes in what has passed. That is why we must elect senators and congressmen that are democrats. The tax, Medicare, patriot act can all be changed. That is why he wants the tax scheme made permanent.

recently, my aunt (who is a member of a fundamentalist church) was watching the news with me, and after a few minutes of glowing reports of the miracles WonderBoy has wrought, she turned to me and said, "This is not of God." Now this is a woman who voted for the evil usurper--and can't even call him by his name anymore--and used to tell me how refreshing it was to have a moral leader in office..

and I think that the one main issue that keeps many Republicans from leaving the dark side is the pro-life issue. The ones I know just can't get past that. Shame really because most of the republicans I know are good hard working people. I've related on these boards about a group that spontaniously started here in Arkansas. It consists of some retirees and those near retirement. Many consider themselves independent, and quite a few are Republicans. They reached out to the demonstratorsfrom our peace group, and have asked for our help in getting the Democratic nominee in office. They didn't really care who the Dem was-they were all in agreement that Bush must go. What gets me is that these people want to have meetings and do some sort of political action to bring Bush's excesses to the attention of the general public. They aren't mad, they are outraged. This is really earth-shattering, imho, because they aren't the protesting kind. Don't remember seeing any of them even waving to us at the demos last year, and now they are contemplating political action!

16. Husband who works in the local supermarket reports that

the Democrats are angry , very angry at Bush and have no qualms about saying so and today he said that a man who struck up a conversation with him said he was a Republican and was NOT going to vote for Bush. He was a senior citizen and quite disappointed and upset voer Bush's policies, although I do not know which ones has him so upset.

It does not matter--he is "turned" and out of the cold.

Some are upset about the Iraq war. Others are turned off by his immigration policies. And his views on the Assault Weapon ban haven't made him any friends either.

Has sounded mighty depressed of late over Dopey's administration. The deficit has him wound up and so does the "amnesty" for Mexican immigrants (et al). Andy's dad, a lifelong mod/conserv Repub, is disappointed as well.
Chip, a born-again Christian, quite conservative, thinks Dopey is nothing but a crusading murderer, vis-a-vis Iraq.
Carl, another good Republican and owner of the Fast Lane Drive-Thru ("Your one-stop shop for beer, wine, rolling papers, chips, dip, teep and all your other essential party supplies -- the official supplier to FUNDAY since 1995"), doesn't even recognize these neo-cons. He just wants a good, solid, Republican business climate and war and deficits don't get it.
I don't know that any of them will vote for *. Then again, I can't say they won't when it comes time for the rubber to meet the road. But I like our chances. A lot.

And 75% have openly told me they will not vote for Bush again, and that they like the Dem candidates--particularly Clark and Kerry. The other 25% have been completely silent about him, but I can see the wheels turning.

opinion on the democratic candidates. It seems the immigration policy bothered one of them and the lies about the war disgusted the other. He even said "I despise Bush." You could have knocked me over with a feather.

One of the salemen from our Louisville office, a very intelligent and nice man, is a conservative from the old school. He too is totally turned off by many of the policies of Spacemonkey, in particular the space mission. He said that they have already bled the treasury, where will we get the funds?

God, I hope and pray spacemonkey is out of there in November, not soon enough. I am on record to dance barefoot in the street, no matter what the weather and it can be pretty cold in Indy at that time of year.

My best friend recently registered Democrat. Her father was like "Why, tell me why?!!" She replied, "I just agree with the things they're saying, Dad, that's all" So I guess its that simple. We say what we believe and people agree with us. We need to make it more clear how we are different from the Republicans. I think we'd have a larger following if that happened. If you talk with normal(people who aren't political junkies like ourselves) people and tell them that Democrats are the party of compassion, civil liberties, individual rights, activism for the poor/uninsured, and champions of education and progress, many people respond positively to our message. Our cause always benefits from intelligent discussion, we should do more of it.

Oh, and contrary to what the Conservatives say, we are patriotic and we do love America!!! That's why we don't mind paying higher taxes to keep her environment clean, her children educated, and her populace healthy.

starting issuing their disgust. the question that remains is will it be enough? maybe another round of BUSH II will do the trick. perhaps the worst thing for conservatism IS bush's reelection. it won't matter, as they will all get what they want and leave the mess to clean up. but it may dampen conservative power for years to come.
