A Very Real Anti-Bush Poll

Note: This is in no way scientific but....

Just spent the last week in Mexico. A lovely resort that we attend every year. Great mix of Americans, Europeans, etc....

Stroke up MANY conversations with people from all walks of life, many of whom are seasoned travelers. Most are well educated, well off (enough to travel to Mexico anyway) and most are well-read. The reason for so much interaction was of course coincidence with the SOTU speech. Made it much easier to get reactions.

They absolutely, totally, with out a doubt HATE Bush and his cronies. Not all were liberals in fact many told me they voted for Bush. Not one. NOT ONE OUT OF MAYBE 100 conversations or so told me they would vote for him again.

One self-proclaimed conservative (in the same van back to the airport):

"I am actually sorry i was naive enough to cast a blind vote for this admin. I am embarrassed that i was 'uneducated' enough to pull the lever just because there was an "R" next to it. My husband feels the same way, don't you honey?"

Hubby: "I'll tell you one thing, I may not be able to vote for any of the Dems, i don't really know yet, but 'W' will not get our votes this time around."

Me: "I only wish there were more educated people (even in hindsight) like you out there."

Hubby: "You might be surprised. Most of our friends are fairly well off. Some are retired, some are not. Many were good tow-the-line Republicans. I am not sure any of them are anymore. Not with these clowns in office anyway."

There were TONS of similar conversations during our stay. The Brits we met were hell bent on ousting Blair and are praying we can do the same to Bush. For the Dems I met, I passed along DU to them. Hopefully we can get some good new members out of it.

Oh yeah, the Yucatan Mexicans don't think much of Fox either. Some were ambivolent but many had some rather interesting terms for old Vincente.

Anyway, more later. Just thought I would share one man's experience.

P.S. Mexico was WARM and FANTASTIC again this year! :)

I asked my daughter if he had any fresh insights about the world situation, beyond the usual Bush is an incompetent boob . . . and my daughter said that my ex is really struck by the amount of anti-Americanism abroad--it has moved from annoyance to real hatred over the last couple of years, so much in fact that Americans are in danger overseas.

I got in a shouting match with one fella who was freaking as I told him how bush was shi%%ing on the Constitution...

Funny how times change.

10. Rightwingers are definitely turning on Bush, BUT

they seem to still be dedicated to Reaganism/social darwinism. They see Bush as a lying crook and an anomaly but don't understand that Reaganism is a sham that will ALWAYS produce Bushes. The Republican Party is the problem, not just a few rotten apples.

I hope that our candidate, when we finally choose one, can make that point.

It gives me hope! When I was in Rome and spoke to Italains, they were all against the Iraqi invasion, disliked Bush intensely, and had little respect for Berlusconi (Bush's fascist buddy).

It sure is nice traveling abroad and getting a new perspective, isn't it?

13. How long before people realize the propaganda disconnect?

The worst-case BBV scenario goes like this:

While *Bush is actually despised by the overwhelming majority of voters, the propaganda cable news channels proclaims either *Bush with a comfortable lead or the race too close to call. Later, with the help of BBV in all its forms, and by controlling the counting of ballots in a sufficient number of states, *Bush is declared the winner.

IF the above occurs, how will Americans react if they realize that the peaceful means of regaining their democracy have been removed?

15. One thing I've noticed has dropped from the quisling whore reports

They used to talk about how much Americans liked Bush (ick, ick, ick). That even though many disagreed with his policies, they really liked Bush as a person.

They don't say that anymore. Now they just tsk tsk over all the Bush hatred.

I really hate to say it, but I don't see Bush* willingly leaving the WH even if he isn't elected. I honestly believe something will happen, before or after the elections, that will allow him to declare himself pResident for the duration of the 'crisis'- whatever that may be- regardless of his elected status.

I honestly do think we're headed right down the path of civil war. I don't have much specific to point to, other than that I can feel it in my bones.

I think the next year or so will end up being very bad indeed, and we will all look back on this time as when things were still ok.

Matcom, I used to be so envious of your postings about your father's change of heart where Bush was concerned. You claimed he was a strong conservative who voted for Bush in 2000 but will NOT vote for him again. I would just sigh and wish the same of my ultra-conservative father. Well guess what..I just got back from a visit with him and he too has had a change of heart where Bush is concerned. He didn't say he'd vote for a Dem but he was adamant about not voting for Bush next time around. He had nice things to say about Edwards and felt he had a bright future and could someday be president. I was so shocked, I gave him a big ole kiss on the top of his balding head. :D
