Even if a Dem is elected Prez, is Draft needed after what Bush has done?

I know the last thing any of the candidates wnats to do is reinstate the draft.

When I was in, that was the feeling. A drafted military was not wanted due to draftees being "problems" as far as morale, discipline and unit cohesion.

1. It's going to be needed no matter what

think of this for a second:

service members are being offered a bonus to stay in during a recession.

That means that a good number of the vets are getting out to a bad economy. An economy in which a job could be here today and gone tomorrow.

2. What do our military candidates say about reinstating draft?

They, Kerry and Clark both have lived through the draft era......Have the given a commitment to the affect that they would not reconstitute the draft?

That he is opposed to any draft. His line is, if the military can't get enough people to volunteer, then the military policy needs to be more in line with the views of the people, not the other way around.

4. No, that's nonsense

The military doesn't want a draft; hell they've been resisting congress' efforts to INCREASE the size of the all-volunteer military. What the military wants is less overseas troop committements. We could have an internationl UN peacekeeping force occupying Iraq within a very short time frame IF we were willing to cede control of Iraq & it's oil.

5. No. It isn't needed , it won't be needed.

What is needed is using our troops for the purpose the founders intended. To defend America. Nothing else.

6. Here's my feeling about reinstating the draft --

Any individual who has never served in combat and has received over $5,000 in benefits from either the Bush tax cuts or windfalls in war profits, is requred to be inducted into military service for front-line combat duty in either Iraq or Afganistan.

Such inductees will be required to wear markings that readily identify them as supporting war for profit. And, like many others currently serving in these combat zones, will not enjoy the benefit of body armor.

Two side benefits of such a program will be 1) that it will save the nation a bundle of bucks on return air fare, and 2) make this country safe for democracy.

If the people trust their President and believe in his leadership, there will be no need for a draft.

One of the biggest problems facing the military now is that soldiers aren't re-enlisting. I think that if a Democratic President is elected and he can get cooperation from the UN, we'll see those re-enlistment rates stabilize. Of course if the shrub gets another term, we'll have another war, no cooperation from the UN, and plummeting re-enlistment. Therefore, a draft would be inevitable.
