"For all the talk about Wesley Clark staying out of Iowa, he sure had a hand in the derailment there of Vermont Gov. Howie Dean. According to several sources in the John Kerry and John Edwards campaigns, much of the opposition research on Dean that flooded the caucus landscape came from people connected to the Clark campaign.

'It wasn't just Clark, though,' says a Kerry staffer. 'We know of at least two different stories that came from people currently on staff with the DNC, who fed the material to reporters.'

According to the staffer, those stories involved furthering the already mushrooming Dean controversy over his accepting speaking fees from drug companies, as well documents that revealed Dean's deliberations as governor on healthcare issues."

This is exactly why I'm considering leaving the party. How can we hope to actually change things in this country if the establishment is allowed to do things like this? It's despicable.

Besides, this is the primaries. Who else do you think staffers of the various candidates are going to blame problems on, if not each other?

Even the primary states will have caucuses for the selection of actual delegates, and possibly officers.

There really needs to be a second front movement to bring Dean and other disaffected Democrats into the process, to start to change the county, state and national committees.

But that sort of change starts at the bottom, and requires some organization.

A perfect late winter/spring task for people in states after their primary/initial caucus dates (if that's not too late for your caucus).

If you're precints/districts/counties are electing officers at the same time as the presidential caucus, then the time to organize to send pro-reform delgates up to each next level is now.

but if he were to mount a 3rd party or independent campaign I am afraid I could not support him any longer. I would urge him to support the Dem nominee (even in the insane event the nomination were to go to Lieberman). I can't take any more of the Bush administration.

It seems as though some people are starting from the assumption that Dean is immaculate. He most certainly is not, and it is always possible that he has acted improperly to the point that it does matter.

This is high stakes politics and people are going to do what they feel they have to do. That is true in the Rep. Party, the Dem. Party, the Green Party, and every other organization of people ever created. My suggestion is that you get used to it rather than considering totally leaving the system because it is not as perfect as your standards demand.

As if Dean's campaign isnt playing politics too. Dean is not a Saint. A Dean third party would be just as full of powerplays and competing people.
