Why do states keep bailing out corporations? |
|
I hate to say this but if your company isn't making any money then you are not doing something right. Either you should refocus your efforts or perhaps your managment team sucks....but why should the government use the people's money to bail you out?
Now some people will argue that it "saves jobs"...but I don't believe that for an instant....typically these same companies have mass layoffs and then they take away benefits and reduce people's salaries...and then they relocate to Taiwan...so perhaps the jobs were saved for a few months but generally when that corporate hand is being extended....they are getting ready to run off with the cash.
US Airways in Pittsburgh is one of those companies...leaching off the state of PA as well as the surrounding communities...all to save jobs that are going to be shipped out to North Carolina where USAirways is setting up their new headquarters.... meanwhile the state of PA is giving them loads of cash to keep them and that money could be used to retrain the soon to be former USAirways employees or perhaps used to fix problems in the state....
The lists go on...each state has a corporate welfare queen that sucks our money dry but doesn't do anything but ask for "concessions"...
So why...why do we keep giving companies our money?????
I worked for a company years ago in Ohio that was trying to get a grant from the state to "modernize" the facility. I was a newbie but yet I was appalled at the utter lack of planning and thought... basically the bozos who were running the company had no plan and were spending the money before it even was assured... I didn't stick around to see if they got it and how they blew the millions the state was going to give them but I bet if the did get the cash they blew it...
And why are people so outraged by a single mother getting a WIC check but they don't seem to give a shit when we dole out millions in cash and tax breaks to companies that give their executives millions of dollars for running the companies into the ground???

Corporations involved in interstate commerce should be FORBIDDEN to accept federal or state subsidies. That way, the CEOs can't play one community against another. This of course would include professional sports clubs who are some of the WORST offenders at taking public funds.

3. Don't even get me started on stadiums... :Pittsburgh public schools got |
|
shit but the Pirates and the Steelers got new stadiums...
Yet the mantra was that "build stadiums and jobs will come"...what jobs??? Hell the people voted against it and yet the Mayor and the rest of the morons (Dems and Repubs) overrode that vote!!!!!
Tell me...what jobs??? Hot dog vendor jobs don't pay well enough... Construction jobs are nice but there isn't that much building in the city...
So now a few years after those stadiums have been in place I haven't see the Fortune 500 just rush to Pittsburgh because we have fancy stadiums....
Oh and to add insult to injury the reason for the stadiums was to build more LUXURY BOXES!!! Tell me the Gilded Age hasn't returned...

Make CEOs work for a living! As a liberal, I of course support job re-training so they can do something useful for the community.
