The American Media Covers for Bush* and Polarizes America
Edited on Tue Jan-27-04 08:12 AM by Q
- Never in my lifetime have I seen the American Media so beholden to a political party.

- If you've been paying attention...the American Media has spent the last decade trashing Democrats and propping up Republicans. They have instilled a atmosphere of hate against the Left that rivals that of the most violent times in our history.

- It all began with what many considered a coup against the Clinton administration. The GOP-inspired Witch Hunt against Clinton couldn't have happened without the direct help of the American Media and their wealthy owners. When they couldn't (illegally) remove Clinton from office...they went after Gore. And once again...with the complicity of the American Media...Gore was labeled as a 'loser' and 'pathological liar'.

- The Media showed their true colors during the 2000 campaign when they refused to inform the citizenry about GWB's* true record. They were successful in covering up the fact that Bush* was unqualified for office and underreported his criminal and shady past.

- Having done their 'duty' in installing Bush* into office using outright lies and ignoring the dirty tricks of the Right...the Media is now dividing the nation in 'reporting' that the Left is unreasonable in their 'hatred' of Bush*. They call it 'Bush* Bashing' and 'hating America'.

- With Nationalism now firmly established in America during a time of Bush's* phony 'war on terrorism'...the Media has helped the Republican party equate George Walker Bush* with America itself. At the same time...they've divided the Left by confusing the ideal of patriotism with going along with the warmongers.

- It's the responsibility and duty of the 'free press' to inform Americans about their government. But they have become traitors to the American people with their pandering to the Right and willful destruction of their opposition. If you don't believe this...just watch as they help Bush* right back into the WH in 2004. The American Media and the wealthy ideologues they work for will NOT allow a Democrat to become president in 2004. Mark my words.

1. Even now on CSPAN...
...a Union Leader 'Columnist' is saying that we should be 'glad' that Bush* was president during 9-11 instead of Clinton or Gore. She said that we can't question Bush's* 'motives' after 9-11 as we could have with Clinton or Gore. The implication being that we can 'trust' Bush* in a way we couldn't have trusted Democrats Clinton or Gore.

- This is a great example of how RWingers disguised as 'journalists' spread hatred and disinformation about Democrats.

4. I love when people tell me that
"I'm gald Bush was president on 9/11, and not Gore or Clinton"

I ALWAYS respond with, "Believe me, if Gore or Clinton were president (or even McCain), then 9/11 would not have happened".

2. Interesting parallel: Berlusconi's Italy
Just today there is an interesting essay in my German newspaper by Umberto Eco, the well-known Italian writer. He claims that if there is a dictatorship, then it will be a medial dictatorship, not a political one. He writes it is now proven that it is not necessary for a coup d'état to use tanks, but that it is sufficient to have the disposal of the media. He is referring to Italy, probably, but perhaps to other countries as well...

5. Indeed...and even many Democrats don't seem to understand...
...the danger in the opposition 'owning' the media. This sets up a scenario where the media can make Bush* look like a demigod and his opposition 'haters' of America.

- And that's exactly what's happening as Democrats are distracted with campaigns and choosing a candidate.

- The Republicans are starting to pull out every dirty trick in the book...including sending out their legions of RWing talking heads to falsely label Bush* as a great and moral leader while branding dissenters on the left as 'haters',

3. "but, but, the liberal media hates Bush"
I hate that.

Jouranalists hate Bush, yes. That is because when they do ask him a real question, they get cut out of the loop, and the networks don't like that.

Plus, it doesn't matter what the journalists think. What matters is the ideology of the executives, owners, and those who control programming content. Last time I checked, most of those people were wealthy conservatives.

6. Just this morning Tim Russert
was gleefully straining his voice talking about "electability" being the focus of New Hampshire voters today. Of course, in the same sentance he mentioned Dean's name, all the while Katie Couric keep saying Dean and his I have a scream speech..............

This country is in a free fall spriral......who will right our ship of state? Who can sneak past the media and into the White House? Who ever it is, will not get to DC without our help. The grassroots political movements must not allow the media and their high powered lawn mowers, mow us and our candidates down.

10. The Bushies know we have no voice or power to stop...
...the Media from reporting anything they like. That's why they can lie their asses off without fear of the truth coming out.

13. Still wondering about that
I'm not a Dean supporter, but I saw it simply like a football coach trying to fire up his team after a tough loss. I didn't think it was a big deal, but I guess I was wrong.

7. Never before have I seen such hatred directed at Democrats...
...inspired by the Media, RWing pundits and Bush* enablers.

- They rant about us 'hating' Bush* as they call us every name in the book...from 'baby killers' to 'traitors' to 'unpatriotic' to 'hating America'.

- It's a strange thing...that they can accuse us of an unreasonable hatred toward Bush* when they've shown nothing but hate towards the Left for so long.

- It's clear now...that Bush* will ride this division in the country right into the WH.

- Again...this morning on CSPAN a caller asked Democrats to 'stop bashing Bush* because we're causing casualties'. There is a 'fever' going through the Republican party that should warn us of the Bushies plan to use NATIONALISM to win in 2004.

8. Shit, they have been using nationalism and jingoism
ever since 9/11. They have been using fear and nationalism to validate their twisted, fascist agenda.

Gee, not that it makes the events of 9/11 seem suspicious or anything...

9. An observation:
- Has anyone else wondered why CSPAN has changed their call-in format to reflect those WITH Bush* and those AGAINST him? Isn't this part of the attempt to polarize America and make those against Bush* look unpatriotic during a 'time of war'?

- Democrats need to wake the hell up and realize our country is being taken over by fascists who intend to make us irrelevant.

12. no one should change, imo, from what they are doing
and let the Rove boys define them. I still think that had someone challenged Bush in the beginning instead of playing this tippy toe game, he would not have gotten away with half of what he has foisted on the Democrats. Yes, the media is out full force accusing us of hating Bush--well, I for one do hate him--without shame. He has murdered thousands of people and he got away with it.

I think the campaigns should go right on the way they have been and I think Americans should not try to placate Rove or the media and pick up any sort of guilt from the accusations. People have a right to be upset at a man who stole their votes from them, used the court to get what he wanted, illegally, and led this country into a huge deficit due to his "returning" the rich folks money to them, two illegal wars, turned the world against us, cut money f rom every social program, putting senior citizens in jeapardy, made a mess out of the school programs and wants to give more money to his rich, corporate buddies.

We have a right, a damn right to be angry at George Bush. Anyone who is NOT angry must have had a frontal lobotomy or the equivalent.
