MSNBC -- Students suspended for bringing a gun to school
Sorry, no link -- I just heard it on the tube.

But the punchline to this story is that the gun in question is from a G.I. Joe doll. About a half-inch long, solid plastic. They said (from what I heard) that the gun posed a danger to other students.

These people actually go to college to develop such critical thinking skills, don't they? :eyes:

The Justice/Public Safety forum! Of course! We'll teach these little prepubescent Terraists-in-Training what JUSTICE means around these heer parts! (And my PUBLIC already feels SAFER, just knowing that the PC police are always on guard, too!)

(On edit: I stole the link from the other thread. For some reason MSNBC is causing my browser to lock up every time I get near it. Go figure. )

3. In 4th grade, a kid brought an antique gun, and the teacher
took us outside so we could watch while his grandpa (who came with him) FIRED IT..

It was one of those flintlock things.. ((I think that was it.. He poured black powder into it )

Another time, a kid brought a samurai sword that was HIS grandpa's..

Times were different </sigh>

4. True, very much different...
Heck, I even remember playing that most evil of schoolyard games, DODGE BALL! And there was even a TEACHER there supervising!

Looking at yesterday's schools with today's filters, it's a wonder any of us ever lived to graduate.

6. I've read that some school districts have banned it
Some because of safety issues (?) and some because it hurts kids' self-esteem when they wind up being the first one thrown out. Pity. I always liked the game, too, and was pretty good at it (as I recall).

Of course, my school always spread broken glass around the area we played in. And we'd tape M-80s to the ball before we threw it -- the teacher would light them, since we weren't allowed to play with matches. And we couldn't afford that nice, squishy ball that other distrcts had, so we used an old softball that we found in a vacant lot. If one of us were hit in the head, we were allowed to sit out a round -- unless we were bleeding heavily, in which case we had to go sit in the parking lot so we didn't bleed all over the markings.

And we liked it that way!
