1. I don't think there's been an election where "crossovers" made a

significant difference. It's hard enough to get Democrats to vote in a Democratic primary. I really don't think the freepers can make a statistical difference.

3. But every vote counts... In Texas crossover voting has made a difference

In 1961 Texas held a special election to fill the unexpired term of LBJ, who'd just been simultaneously elected VP and Senator. It was done as a special, non-partisan election (candidates had known affiliations, but there was no party primaries, just the general election free for all). After the vote, no candidate got a majority, so a run off was held between the two top vote-getters.

Because the liberal, Ralph Yarborough wing of the Democrats didn't get their guy into the run off against the candidate of the conservative wing of the party, a lot of liberals crossed over in the general election to support Republican John Tower for Senator, assuming they could always knock off a Republican incumbent in Texas in 5 1/2 years, and Tower won by a very tight margin. The cross overs made the difference. This was basically the beginning of the Republican Party in Texas in the 20th Century and Tower stayed in office until 1984. Ooops.

5. They are stoopid. They are undermining the unity of the democrats

this year because I strongly think WHOEVER wins the nomination, the dems are going to vote in record numbers this year. Probably most of the Greens who voted in 2000 will vote dem this year.

Couple that with the pissed off conservatives who are planning on staying home, you suddenly have a villiage in Texas who found it's idiot and he is coming home.

If they were smart, I would worry about a plan, but they are the most stupid of the * followers, so let them dream.

Frankly, given how tight the last {s}election was, I expect there is going to be high turnout on both sides. Which, as far as democracy goes, is a great thing. I just hope we trounce them.

have much faith in their own chimp if they feel that they must pick who they believe to be the 'weakest' candidate for him to go up against. :crazy: Gray Davis picked the candidate he wanted to run against and he just barely squeaked in at the time and look what happened to him since, not the smartest move. :-(
