1. I do the same thing
I simply ask "What country are you in"

I have yet to get an answer

Always end the conversation when they ask if there
is anything else they can do for me say "yes please
don't vote for bush "

2. I once asked "where are you located?" -- which I always have done,
even before overseas outsourcing, so if I need to refer to the conversation, I can say "Beth in Freeport" if need be -- and I got "ohdon'tworryI'minAmerica" really quick.

I asked again:
"Where in America are you located? I need it for my records."
"Buffalo."
"Buffalo. Hm. What state is that in again?"
No answer. Papers shuffling.
"Um. New York?"

3. I got their real names.

I call Covad all the time ordering additional DSLs. They moved the orders dept to India. I always got "Chad," "Dan," "Cindy" or somesuch. I always asked them their real name.

I insisted that business isn't based on lies, and if the first words out of their mouths were going to be lies then I was not doing business with them and the weren't getting the commission. They either told me their real names or I went to a manager, complain, and raised a stink until I got someone honest.

I now deal entirely with Sabic and Balaji. Very nice guys.

Edit: correct a crappy subject header
