Saddam "bluffed" about wmd? Chris Matthews and Dana Milbank.

Tonight on "Hardball" Chris Matthews and Dana Milbank of the Washington Post were saying maybe Saddam bluffed in claiming he had wmd.

What are they talking about?

During the leadup to the Iraq War, Iraq kept saying that they didn't have wmd, and the Bush Administration kept saying that Saddam was violating the UN by refusing to admit he has wmd.

Tweety was all over Kay today about the "WMD" bullshit. He knew he had the best of him so he said "Oh David Kay, you're just smarter than me" at the end of he interview. Tweety then went to sharpen his beak for democratic candidates.

Matthews didn't ask Kay ONE tough question. At the end he said "you're a brave man."

He didn't ask the key questions such as:

Aren't you a republican? Don't you support George Bush? Weren't you a fervrent supporter of the war before it started? Why couldn't the inspectors have come to the same conclusion you did without the war?

Why do you think the war was necessary? If your son had died over there, would you feel the same way?

and the main question for Kay:

Aren't you covering your own ass by blaming all of this on others' bad intelligence?

and on and on and on ....

what any real "journalist" would have asked.

what about the office of special plans? What significance did that have in the build up to the war? Why was Dick Cheney at the CIA all the time? Do you think he was badgering the agents to find intelligence that would justify a war? Is it common for a vice president to spend that much time at the CIA? What about Chalabi and those people how much influence did they have? What about Wolfowits, Perl and the Project for a New American Century? Given that Cheney and the other neo-cons from that organization are now running the show, do you think that they intended to go to war from the first day the administration took over? Were they just looking for any reason to go in?

Not only did President Hussein say that he had no such weapons, the U. N. inspectors were unconvinced as well. The IAEA said bluntly that there was no credible evidence of an active nuke-u-lar program.

It's interesting to watch the administration painting their current picture of "bad intelligence," when I recall plenty of opposing arguments at the time that Bush* was making his run-up to invasion. It's collective denial-- there WAS plenty of evidence that Hussein had complied with the U.N. disarmament mandate, and there was no bluffing about WMD's at all. The White House ignored the evidence then and is trying to keep it out of the public consciousness now.

Unfortunately, that was just enough to be used as an excuse for invasion by the shrubbies. And OF COURSE the administration didn't think he had a significant WMD stash, or we wouldn't have invaded at all. We know with 99.9% certainty that North Korea has nukes, and you won't see us invading them anytime soon.
