Anyone here planning to protest the Republican Convention in NYC?
I'm also curious how many of us protested Bush's "Inauguration" in January 2001?

1. I am.
I still need a place to stay. My girlfriend and my brother will both be there with me. We hope to document the whole trip with video and digital photography (which I hope all other protesters will do as well). Why do you ask? Are you collecting names for the NYPD/FAA "Cannot Fly" list?

2. Count me in
Edited on Fri Jan-30-04 03:52 PM by WhoCountsTheVotes
As a former WTC worker and a current NYC resident, Bush's dancing on the graves of the victims for his re-election campaign I take as a personal insult added to injury.

I'm going to walk over to MSG to register my disapproval.

P.S. - anyone need a place to stay PM me.

6. It's great to hear a New Yorker's opinion on this.
We can only hope the outcry is so huge that they'll have to end it early and hold the remaining ceremonies and press coverage at the harbor!

8. It's going to backfire on them
they have no idea. The ONLY thing they can do to stop a massive humiliation by incredibly angry New Yorkers is parade Osama Bin Laden downtown - then again, with the US Army saying they are "positive" they will catch Bin Laden this year (since they already know exactly where he is) that might just happen.

Considering I work across the street from MSG, I wonder how much trouble I'll get in for "protesting" on my way to work every day?

11. RationalRose and I talked about coordinating a group of DUers
helping people find places to stay, nailing down logistics, planning some gatherings, etc.

Who would be interested in that?

Also, could the people on the ground in NYC be available to help? Hard to arrange everything from hundreds of miles away.

13. I'm in Boston-wondering if NYC DUers could assist me
I know the area hotels well being a business traveler, but need input from New Yorkers if they hear about security issues (whether hotels near Madison Sq Garden will be for Convention attendees, security staff, etc). My fear is we will book hotels and DUers won't be able to get into NYC.

18. of course you can get to nyc
they're not going to shut down penn station in the middle of the week. All the businessmen going into new york from long island go through there, in the tens of thousands a day I would guess.

it may be a huge hassle with reagrd to getting through tunnels/over bridges and parking.

I bet there will be searches like right after 9-11.

16. I would like to...
I'd thought I would look into the possibility of chartered buses for transportation, say, if a group or organization got one that passes through Kansas City.

I'd also need to check into a place to stay, like a dorm room or other economical residence.

22. Kerry should get the firefighters to protect Ground Zero
Hell, *I'd* even vote for Kerry if he led the protest with the firefighters - they can form a circle around Ground Zero to prevent the Traitor-in-Thief from polluting the site with his evil presence.

34. LOL nostamj
I'm sorry.

I was writing you a pm, and dummy me, wrote it in a post instead - which I can't believe I did that!!! (I have teenage boys driving me nuts here at home! All they're thinking about is FOOD FOOD FOOD! LOL), anyway, as I noticed my mistake, someone was knocking on the door, the phone started to ring, and once you read your PM you'll understand why I had to delete the post before answering the door and phone! LOL

I'm going to make me a cup of tea now.

33. I hope to be there. I want to be there.
It depends on money- as in will I have any to travel on. Other then that, I hope to stay with my friends. If that doesn't work out, I guess a night on the streets won't hurt me. One or two nights on the streets are better than four more years of the resident wanker. I'm sure there will be others with me in the streets.
