Did anyone notice that there is still a war going on?
Recently it seem that primary coverage has blown this war off the front page in the US.

US deaths rise in wake of Saddam capture

US combat deaths in Iraq have risen sharply during January despite a drop in the number of attacks and the capture of former dictator Saddam Hussein over a month ago.

As of Thursday, 33 American soldiers and one civilian had been killed by hostile fire during the month. That compares with 24 US combat deaths in December, and a total of 32 coalition combat deaths.

The figures appear to show that the security situation in Iraq is not improving, contrary to earlier claims from the US military and politicians.

The US casualties are also mounting Afghanistan, where seven US soldiers were killed on Thursday in an explosion near an ammunition dump in the south of the country.

David Kay says that Iraq is on the brink of civil war. Another friend of mine is heading over there in 3 or 4 weeks.

Does the media's playing up the arguments between our candidates while playing down the war serve a larger interest?

1. Yea about 135000 GIs figured it out
but for some reason the "liberal media" just doesn't have time after the Michael Jackson, Martha Stewart, Koby, and screaming Dean segments. You know the hard news.

3. Exactly my point

When the war was in the news, we were looking much stronger against Bush. Now, I seem to have to search around a bit for news about this.

My friend, an army master sargent in the reserves is going over there to "Teach Iraqi soldiers to kick us in the ass". (a direct quote) I would say he doesn't sound too enthusiastic.

4. Rove calls the news media executives and demands
they dont cover a damned thing..the soldiers are nothing to them..the only thing the media cares about is ratings and keeping the public out of sight, out of mind..
Executives in plush offices in large cities, who see news as a commercial. They hire pre pubescent little kids to sit and smile and make grimacing noises about this n that bit o fluff.
In the meantime, our kids die.
The blood is on the media's hands.
The blood is on every hand of anyone who supports this war or ignores the dead and wounded.
