Washington DUer's a Call to Action
Edited on Sat Jan-31-04 02:02 AM by God_bush_n_cheney
2 weeks ago I went to Olympia and walked a bill around getting sponsorship in the house. I was able to get 6 signatures. By the time the bill was read for the first time lo and behold...The Bill now has 12 sponsors. Please contact these individuals to thank them for supporting this important legislation. Representatives include: Ed Murray, Jeff Morris, Dave Quall, Kelli Linville, Maralyn Chase, Mary Lou Dickerson, Eickmeyer, Geoff Simpson, Dawn Morrell, Phil Rockefeller, Ruth Kagi, Dave Upthegrove. If you don't see your Senators or Representatives on the List NOW IT THE TIME TO CALL!

RedEagle and a group she works with wrote this legislation and it is very good law. Spread the word. Get this bill out of committee.

Here are the ones you need to pester in the house (bold indicates sponsorship)

Jeff Morris - Chair (D)
Laura Ruderman - Vice chair (D)
Brian Sullivan - Vice chair (D)
Larry Crouse - Ranking Minority Member (R)
Toby Nixon - Asst. Ranking Minority Member (R)
Glenn Anderson (R)
Brian Blake (D)
Roger Bush (R)
Jerome Delvin (R)
Zack Hudgins (D)
Steve Kirby (D)
Lois McMahan (R)
Cathy McMorris (R)
Sandra Romero (D)
Rodney Tom (R)
Deb Wallace (D)
Alex Wood (D)

On the Senate side these are the ones we need to be pestering.

Pam Roach, Chair R-31
ValStevens, Vice Chair R-39
Jim Kastama D-25
Jean Berkey D-38
Darlene Fairley d-32
Jim Horn R-41
Bob McCaslin R-4

Guys and Gals, this is important. Get busy we need this bill passed. Here is the full text

Thanks,
Andy

2. My representative is one of the sponsers!

Geoff Simpson's a great guy, he actually pays attention, and when you write him, he responds personally, no form letters. We'll let him know how much we appreciate this.

5. No Problem...
It is unfortunate some on the house side are favouring Mr Reeds bill which opens the door to internet voting. I offered for Ms Ruderman (My Democratic Opponent) to sign on to the bill the first go around. She stated that she wanted to "leave the door open" for a technological solution. IMHO However...that is excatly what we don't want to do.

I hate to use a phrase GW did...but in this case I feel it is appropriate. Your either with us, or your against us.

I would really like to see this law passed. RedEagle and her group worked very hard to see that the protections we all would like to see are in the bill. I would not have walked it if I did'nt think it were so.

I went to several Senators and got the brush off by two. I am going to make a call on Monday and get at least one Senator to Sponsor it. But I need a few other to sign on as well.

If you would like to lobby a few here are their names.

Pat Thibaudeau (D-43)
Mary Margaret Haugen (D-10)
Ken Jacobsen (D-46)
Jim Hargrove (D-24)
Tracey Eide (D-30)

6. House State Governenment Committee
The Gov. committee referred it to the Tech committee.

Tech will make recommendations. But the bill is also being heard by the Gov. members.

Kathy Haigh- Chair
Mark Miloscia- Vice Chair of the Secretary of State's bill, but seems
to be working with us.
Mike Armstrong
Jan Shabro
Sam Hunt
Joe McDermott
Toby Nixon
Rodney Tom
Deb Wallace

Tell them you want oversight of voting systems selection by the legislature, not a free rein by the Secretary of State.

Say NO to Internet voting. Reed is trying everything he can to leave that door open. His bill, by the use of language, will exempt Internet from a voter verified paper ballot requirement. Internet is not ready yet, if it ever will be. But the WA State Elections office is good friends with VoteHere.

They want to exempt Snohomish county from getting a voter verified paper ballot for their touch screens by 2004. Let them know that is unacceptable, but also try to come up with solutions for footing the bill. They still have their optical scans, all they have to do is print the ballots.

15. Thanks Andy & RedEagle!! This is awesome!!
I bookmarked the bill to take to the North Carolina congress, and I'll try to see if we can't get a sponsor right away. It really seems to cover all the concerns us BBV people have had during the investigation of this issue.

Keep up the good work! And all you Washingtonians.... please, as stated above, make big noise about all the congresscritters who are NOT willing to sign on to this, and surely demand to know why the security of your votes isn't important to them! Buy them a copy of BBV!

:bounce: Yea for our side!! Yea for Democracy!! :bounce:
