2. 15% support for Bush is
still too high.

So long as those numbers hold there will be no North American political union. Just imagine, all those electoral college votes. :D

5. There will never be a North American Union
There'd be a permanent democratic majority. The real question is, which candidate would Canadians vote for? I don't know. I know who you and I would likely vote for, but who would the mainstream go to?

8. Asking Canadians their choice of Democratic candidates would
make an interesting poll question.

Since Kucinich is the one whose positions best represent the NDP's, he might be the choice of 18 or so percent here. And I get the impression that Dean would be a very popular choice for centrist Liberals, particularly as his anti-war stance would confirm Chretien's decision to stay out of Iraq.

3. exactly the way my friend from Montreal discribed him 2 years ago LOL
MAYBE IT'S THAT SMUG LITTLE SMILE. His penchant for fantastically expensive military photo-ops. Or the swaggering, belt-hitching walk that cries out for a pair of swinging saloon doors.

And though, God knows, we have too many of our own syntactically challenged politicians to be casting stones, shouldn't the leader of the free world know that "misunderestimate" isn't a word? Yes, we're cavilling, but clearly there is something about George W. Bush that gets under the skin of Canadians. After all, vehemently disagreeing with the policies of American presidents is almost a national pastime.

6. A real problem for Martin:
"These numbers really show the difficulty for Paul Martin," says Marzolini, the long-time pollster for the federal Liberal party. "He has to get closer to the Americans, but he can't get too close to George Bush. It's a fine balance."

Martin hasn't shown much inclination to find the balance.
