Forgiving Alex Deccio (WA Senate racial slur)

Apparently (in their editorial pages) the Seattle P.I. and the Seattle Times are both ready to forgive Deccio's "nigger in the woodpile" comment during negotiations on health care reform... and so is Rosa Franklin (D), the WA State Senate's only African-American.

I'm not so sure; does anyone deserve this kind of pass?

And he certainly shouldn't be heading a committee this session. He really should resign, IMHO.

Virtually everyone state official treats the public the way Deccio talks about them.

He meant what he said. He is only sorry that he said it in front of the wrong people. I am tired of people making racial slurs then putting out their apology. People who don't use racial slurs don't usually slip up and call someone a "nigger in a woodpile". I'd rather be a nigger in a woodpile than a racist coward who can't just say I meant what I said and said what I meant.
