Has anyone ever really found out if the general public even knows what a conservative, a liberal, a Democrat or a Republican really are? I mean, most of us have learned about political agendas from years of experience and about what things we support and don't support. But the general, maybe-not-the-brightest-bulbs in the pack, as well as anyone who has never had any formal "political" training, do they REALLY know what the differences are between the parties, what ideologies they stand for and why some go one way and others, a different way?
I would really like to see at least one of the candidates take those issues to the people, and explain to them who their REAL supporters are. The rich, white, WASP is one thing, but think--why would someone from, let's say, Appalachia, support republicans, since financially, that is definitely the wrong way to go? I think many people vote strictly on gut reactions, and the repukes as we know go for the most emotional reaction. That Appalachian, for example, probably believes the propaganda that liberals and Democrats want to take away his hunting rifle, that they want to make everyone into heathens, and make all his daughters go and have an abortion. It only takes a minute in the "real world" to see that these are distortions planted by the RW to help sway people to their side, even when it's against the voters best interest, simply because the image projected of the liberals and Democrats is so out of sync with who we really are.
So, I could only hope that one of the candidates, it doesn't matter WHO, gives a Civics 101 lesson to the populace of this country and try to take that horrendous method of distortion away from the public eye, so that people can more clearly understand the differences between the major political parties.
