TR: Mr. President, the polls have turned against you. Although you still enjoy high poll numbers as America's war president, they are no longer as strong as they were? Why is this? GW: In every administration poll numbers tighten in an election year. I am sure that the majority of God-fearing Christians and Jews who go to church every week will vote for me.
TR: What is the status of your internal investigation of the Plame leak? GW: It's a big White House. I want to find the individuals responsible, but that is the job of the Justice Department. We have cooperated fully and will continue to do so. This should not be made into a political issue.
TR: What about the 9/11 investigation? GW: We have cooperated fully and agree to extend the investigation into July. We want to prevent this from ever happening again. We will find what went wrong in the intelligence agencies. We do not seek blame. We only wish to learn from this so it won't happen ever again. This should not be made into a political issue.
TR: What about the upcoming Iraq investigation? GW: I will structure it like the greatest investigation of all-time, The Warren Commission. I will name nine distinguised patriotic Americans to determine what went wrong with our intelligence and why we were given such poor quality information. We hope to have answers sometime in 2005. This should not be made into a political issue.
TR: What about Ellen Mariani, the 9/11 widow who is suing you and others in your administration about 9/11? GW: I am sure she is sincere in her pain of loss, but she is very wrong to assume that I knew about the attacks beforehand. This should not be made into a political issue.
TR: Mr. President, you are a War-hero, a fighter pilot during VietNam. What do you say about those who say you shirked your duty in the Texas National Guard? GW: This is just politics. We expect this kind of thing. We are ready for it. It is wrong, just wrong to revert to this character assassination. I believe that JOhn Kerry was a good soldier, even if he protetsed the war immediately after coming back from Viet Nam. This should not be made into a political issue.
TR: Mr. President, Halliburton continues to receive contracts in Iraq even though they are under a cloud of suspicion. GW: As you know, Vice President Cheney has the utmost regard for the company. I trust his judgment. This should not be made into a political issue.
TR: David Kay has said "we were all wrong" about WMD. Were you? GW: Saddam was an evil man. He kicked out the inspectors. We had to go in. The intelligence we had was very convincing. The people of Iraq are free. They will soon form their own government. We have reduced the terrorist threat. And we still suspect WMD may have been moved to Syria. So the issue is still open. But the fact of the matter is, we have removed the worlds worst terrorist from power. And he will never again enter those rape rooms. This should not be made into a political issue.
TR: About the economy. Some say this is your achilles heel. It is obviously turning around. But jobs are a problem. GW: Look, Tim. We are doing everything possible to get the economy moving again. As you know, the recession started in 2000 during the previous administration, and the 9/11 attack set us back. But, we have cut overtime, veterans benefits, unemployment benefits and will continue to cut spending to reduce the deficit. And we will create millions of jobs for those who have illegally entered this country. This should not be made into a political issue.
TR: You reminded us of JFK when you announced the Mars Mission. But it wasn't mentioned in SOTU. GW: I wanted to focus on the immediate problems, such as terror, the economy and civil rights and health care. I will discuss the Mars mission in detail later this year with a slide presentation.
TR: The latest bioterror attack was on a Republican this time - Bill Frist. Ricin was the agent used. What are you doing to catch the perpetrator(s)? GW: Well, at least it wasn't a Democrat this time. Hehehe. You can rest assured that the full investigative prowess of the FBI will be used to find the culprit. And if the Ricin terroist is watching right now, I want to tell him this: (Bush looks into the camera) We will find you and bring you to Justice. This should not be made into a political issue.
TR: Thank you, Mr. President. We all feel much safer now. GW: Thanks, Tim, for giving me the best head I have ever had. You are good. Really good.
