Frist on gay marriage
Sen. Frist today said that we have to treat everyone "with tolerance," but vowed to stop gay marriages despite "activist judges."

I wrote him to say that as a hetero man, I believe the only requirement is that we treat citizens with equality and that the govt. shouldn't be in the sacrement business anyway. I agree with Dershowitz..a civil partnership contract should be treated like any other contract. Let the churches figure out what a "marriage" is.

I'm sure he'd love to hear from all of you....at

3. That's all fine and dandy but...
...the queer community is looking for state sanctioned marriages, NOT Church sanctioned marriages. There is a big difference between the two.

4. My point....
....is exactly that. If the State is going to call it marriage, it should be available to any and everyone. However, there is really no reason for government to be involved at all in marriage, a ritual sacrament with different requirements in different religions.

Civil / domestic partnership licenses and contracts would be more appropriate in all cases to the secular function of the government, and would be subject to the Constitution's "full faith and credit" requirement that each state honor the laws of another. The additional layer of sacramental marriage in whatever church would be entirely voluntary and essentially ornamental -- not necessary to a couple's rights and responsibilities.

This will, of course, never happen under an administration that sees itself as God's chosen custodians.
