Automatic Response from the White House.
A few days ago, I received a petition from the DNC to tell President Bush that he was hurting veterans with his new budget:

Here is the automatic response I received:

Thank you for e-mailing President Bush. Your ideas and comments are very
important to him.

Because of the large volume of e-mail received, the President cannot personally
respond to each message. However, the White House staff considers and reports
citizen ideas and concerns.

In addition to President@WhiteHouse.gov, we have developed White House Web
Mail, an automated e-mail response system. Please access
http://www.whitehouse.gov/webmail to submit comments on a specific issue.

Additionally, we welcome you to visit our website for the most up-to-date
information on current events and topics of interest to you.

1. Yeah, they've been doing that for months now. Our names and e-mail
addresses just probably end up in a 'terrorist' database, and then the things are deleted. This is the most useless government that there has ever been since the species started to walk upright.

2. there is a reason they get tons of email
And I am sure that it has nothing to do with my tendency to enter "president@whitehouse.gov" whenver a website asks for my email address.

4. um, automated responses are pretty common
I get them from newspapers too. It's just a way of acknowledging your email was received.

BTW, I sent one this morning pointing out that Blix was right and Bush was wrong, and suggested he just admit he rigged the 2000 election and Al Gore is the real president.

5. On average, i send bush 4 e-mails a week...
obviously, none of these praise anything he does. I'm almost positive that he NEVER sees negative e-mail or letters.

I wrote Clinton on several occasions, I always got a letter back, usually a form letter, but I got a response on at least three occasions that were specific to my concerns, and personally signed by Clinton. You can tell if there is a sig facsimile, these 3 specific letters, were signed by ballpoint, and each was slightly different.
I was impressed.

I also have a personally signed letter from Dwight Eisenhower. When I was a kid he was president, and I was learning cursive, I figured, who better to write, than the president! Ike sent me a typed letter back, telling me how proud he was that I had chosen him to try out my new cursive skills. Ike had class.
