Poll question: Your Weekly Rush - The CIA
Yesterday Rush had on a caller who was a liberal. The caller was defending the CIA, and Rush "called him on it." "The correct answer {for liberals} is he shouldn't be rebuilding the CIA. We hate CIA. The CIA is the focus of evil and the CIA is why we're in trouble, we've got to get rid of the CIA . . .."

So here's a question, how do we feel about the CIA?

1. The CIA has good people working for us
The problem is in how they are directed. If political leaders use the CIA for any political purpose, it poisons the CIA. When the CIA is used not to gather intelligence, but to interfere with foreign nations, it hurts all of us. If the CIA works like the OSS, its predecessor, during WWII, then I don't have a problem with it.

2. So strictly as an information gathering agency?
Or strictly anti-espionage?

5. In the "Good" old days
The FBI handled anti-espionage (when they weren't busy hounding folks like Dr. King) and the CIA collected and analyzed information. We heard for the last year or so that the CIA analysis did not support the Administration's reasone for attacking Iraq. So, it looks to me like the CIA did NOT fail, that this was NOT an intelligence failure, but was an example of our Star Chamber government cherry picking from a bunch of disparate data and doing what it always wanted to do.

Sorry, I ranted....

3. Start with the NSA. (The CIA is minor in comparison.)

6. Even the NSA
as, part of the intelligence community, falls under the purview of the DCI.

7. Rush is a drug-fogged has-been. The caller was not even real...
...he's still using that old trick- defining what a Liberal is according to his own bias?

Not going to work with this issue.

8. The CIA is needed but
I see problems with the ethics of using what should be an information gathering agency as a black bag operation.

To gather information there needs to be secrecy to protect the sources supplying the information. This secrecy can/has been used to subvert what most Americans would view as ethical.

In the desire to 'help' American corporate interests, contrary to congress's intensions (our elected representatives), the agency secrecy has been used to hide operations that run drugs, interfere with our elections, provide support for totalitarial governments, provide WMD to dictators so they may suppress dissent, overthrow legitimately elected governments. These things are decidedly unamerican, yet a agency within our own government has does these things.

One such operation running drugs into Los Angeles has decimated the community. Are these guys on our side?

Another operation interfered with the Carter-Reagan election to the point of causing the clandestine CIA's champion to be elected- Reagan.

Another operation interfered with the Carter rescue attempt of embassy employees being held hostage.

The list goes on and on.

It is time to route those uber patriots and move the government back to where it belongs, looking out for the interests of America, all Americans not some small segment that claims they alone are America's interest.
