TPM/JMM update on Plame -- Hannah, no target; Libby, likely

Yesterday I talked with an emissary from neoconland who pushed back heavily on the story, at least as regards John Hannah. No mention of Libby. But Hannah, this person insisted, is simply not a target of the investigation.

Let me add another point. There are lots of people I know (of many political persuasions) who aren't surprised Libby would be involved in this and won't be shedding a tear if he gets brought down by it. But they feel the opposite on both counts about Hannah.

8. It must be Libby's punishment for embarassing the Repubs on the Rich

matter. Remember it was Scooter Libby that Lobbied for the Rich Pardon that everyone freaked out over. It really put Cheney in an uncomfortable position. How could he bad mouth President Clinton when it was his own Chief of Staff that recommended the Pardon in the first place. :crazy:

9. I think Libby will be the fall guy.

I expect Libby to fall on his sword but I do not think he was the only one involved. The White House had an exremely well organized disinformation and political strategy group called the White House Iraq Group, or WHIG, to deal with the PR concerning the invasion of Iraq. The WHIG was created and run by Andy Card and was responsible for fabricating the lies leading up to the invasion, including the uranium lies, and selecting which particular lie would be presented when and who would present it. Libby was a member of the WHIG as was Turd Blossom Rove. I find it hard to believe that a group created expressly to be responsible for the fabrication and dissemination of lies relating to the invasion of Iraq would not be involved in the Plame leaks.

10. Is John Hannah

the guy that used to play tackle for the Pats, at an all-world level? I remember that guy being from Texas and well-spoken, and would be the right age to be in that job.
