shrub photos near Ft. Sumter (confederates started Civil War here)
The setting was carefully stage-managed. Washington Post Allen writes: "The morning was raw, with wind whipping his hair, script and overcoat. Moments before the speech, the White House staff had to get the Coast Guard to reposition a cutter anchored behind him because it had drifted out of position and was no longer providing a perfect backdrop."

Joe Curl of the Washington Times notes that Bush "delivered his speech yesterday within view of Fort Sumter, site of the first shot fired in the Civil War.

1. The poor CG Cutter skipper
Edited on Fri Feb-06-04 12:35 PM by RobertSeattle
Doesn't he realize the #1 priority of the US Military is to be a prop for the Bush 04 campaign?

(On Edit: Deleted incorrect statement about the ownership of the lower container - see thread below)

4. The star is Maersk
the shipping arm of the Danish A.P Moller conglomerate. The star has seven points supposedly, to denote every workday of the week.

AP Moller is an intersesting company that seems to be modeled along the lines of M&M in catch 22.

It should be also noted that the blue American President Lines container is owned by the Singaporean NOL.

About the only thing American is the Coast guard cutter. Do the republicans have a plan for out sourcing that? Vote for Bush in November and find out!

8. One of these carefully planned photo-ops of theirs
is going to backfire on them someday. People still die of pneumonia, after all. And who are all those people that showed up to listen to a speech in such weather? They must have paid them. I can't think of anyone I'd stand outside and listen to in weather like that.

9. the White House staff had to get the Coast Guard to reposition a cutter
Bush has no shame at all. He seems to think the military is there to provide him with appropriate photops.
