When McCain is tapped to replace Cheney should we replay comments

McCain's appointment to this "independent" intelligence commission should demonstrate this. McCain won't exactly be "independent" if he is the VP on the Bush ticket.

Of course, he is not totally independent now either, but at least the image is there.

Sure McCain hates him. But he just has to cool his heels for 4 years - and then he grabs the brass ring.

McCain has shown time and time again that he is a soldier for the party - despite the smears and dirty tricks they pulled on him.

McCain's role on the "commission" is irrelevant. They will use him however they see fit, whenever they see fit.

13. Remember Bush/Quayle?

Many GOPers wanted Dan Quayle off the ticket in '92, but so-called "Bush loyalty" prevented it. As I recall, the Bush campaign made it clear that George the Elected would not replace Quayle, even if to do so would help with poll numbers. This gave Bush I an air of "respectability;" as if Bush integrity and loyalty were more important than politics (not to mention incurring the wrath of the right wingers if Quayle got the boot). Of course, we all know how that turned out.

Couldn't the same thing be said of this change if it were to happen? Perhaps reminding voters about Bush the Elected's decision and contrasting it with the present predicament of Bush the Unelected, even if Cheney were to leave voluntarily and be replaced by McCain, would do more harm than good for the Bushistas. I would think ANY scenario where Cheney is replaced would reflect poorly on BushBaby; as if the Bushistas were saying "We're sacrificing one of our own because we're in deep shit and think this will help BushBaby get re/elected."

A few points to consider: how did Cheney wind up on the ticket in the first place? He was given the task to find a VP candidate for BushBaby. He chose himself, and BushBaby went along with it. This is SOOO transparent, and can be countered in several ways: BushBaby should be asked why he went along with Cheney for VP in the first place; define Cheney's departure as a desertion; highlight that Cheney, the No. 2 man, is abandoning the US troops in time of war.

I do agree that Bush/McCain could be problematic (emphasize the bad blood between them: Will they work well together? Does one really trust the other?), but with all the crap going on, any change at the top could be viewed as desperation politics. Remember, the sagging poll numbers are reflective of BUSH, not Cheney.

16. McCain won't be Chosen

The Fundies hate McCain. Pat Robertson would call for hurricanes, tornadoes, blizzards, etc.

McCain would also outshine Shrub, because he knows the English language, & I don't think he would hide in a cave.

Actually, McCain & Kerry are really close, & if Kerry is elected, I'm betting McCain would be Sec of Defense. Kerry has already mentioned it is a possibility.
