2nd Infantry Division seeks to curb lap dancing at clubs
My old unit leading the charge in defining the bounds of decency in S Korea....

----------------------

Link

<snip>

The 2nd Infantry Division wants lap dancing banned in Area I nightclubs frequented by U.S. soldiers, according to documents to be presented this week to the Korean Special Tourist Association and local mayors.

<snip>

Insert beureaucratic process here

“Though lap dancing is authorized under 2nd Infantry Division policy, it has not been defined. For the purposes of good order and discipline, lap dancing will be defined here,” and the definition integrated into conduct standards.

And the official Army definition of a lap dance is....

The proposed guide defines lap dancing as an activity that occurs “when a club dancer is approached by or offers to dance for a soldier … typically of the opposite sex. This interaction between dancer and soldier is typically done at very close quarters.”

6. Oh come on!
I've never been stationed in Korea however, there are many things to do there...besides Hittin' the "Dong-Du Chon" scene.

S. Korea is not a big country and if the GI's would just take the time to see the culture of Korea...instead of going out with their dicks in their hands...it would be so much better for them and their accomodating natives.

I was stationed in germany for over ten-years and I've heard the same excuses..."oh, poor me, Igot nothing to do here in my remote post out in the nowhere land".

If the GI's would just get out of that "horny" mode and start exploring the region with other "intentions"...they could better themselves and be beneficial to their neighbors.

8. Hey, sure....but the culture of S Korea
is Soju and lap dances. It's absolutely everywhere over there.

The key difference between Germany and Korea is that soldiers are sent there on 1 year hardship tours...

That's sans family and sans leave (except 2 weeks at the 6 months point)

9. Yeah, I know about the "hard-ship" tour but....
If ya can't keep yar dongs in the trousers for a year....I dunno man.

Listen, Germany has the same old shit....sex clubs and booze bars(designed esp. to take the hard earned dollar from the GI boys).

In my opinion, if ya get stationed overseas and your priorities lie solely with getting laid or getting drunk...why bother going there?

I know it's not much of a choice if yar orders are cut that way but, when ya can do the same thing in Hood or Bliss(RIP)....

When the GI's go out on the town and raise hell...it's not a good image thing for the natives.

A lot Anti-Americanism in Korea springs forth from this.

to keep it zipped for a year....

"why bother going there" Well, as you know, sometimes, it's not your choice

11. Of course...it's difficult.
hey, you're right on that...it's hard to ask a recent HS grad to keep his pants zipped on his first "outing" of life.

But, it's the local chain of command that's usually responsible for "supporting" certain entertainment venues and they promote much of it.

I'm not disagreeing with you on this issue because I know it's a fact that young GIs away from home will venture forth to find these entertainment sources.

But, I think the pertinent military organization of each camp should do it's dardest to promote other sorts of entertainment around posts.

I guess, it's the mentality of going about it....

But, That's just my opinion.

12. when I was there we worked long hours
and there seriously was nothing else to do but to go out drinking as soon as you got off (in my unit we usually got off anywhere past 7pm) and we had a curfew on the weekends so there wasn't any opportunity to go down to Seoul or other towns and "see the culture"

You don't know what you are talking about. Korea and Germany are two different universes in my opinion, especially when you are talking about the 2nd infantry division which is the first line of defense against North Korea.

7. When I was stationed In Germany
They had Nuremberg's red light district "off limits".
I never saw any M.P.'s nor heard of anybody getting caught there.
Young men, far from home will just go a little further to get what they want.
