The setting was carefully stage-managed. Allen writes: "The morning was raw, with wind whipping his hair, script and overcoat. Moments before the speech, the White House staff had to get the Coast Guard to reposition a cutter anchored behind him because it had drifted out of position and was no longer providing a perfect backdrop."

It sure looks like they are political rallies to me. I think Bush owes the taxpayers a reimbursement for campaigning on the taxpayers dime.

4. Why not just have a huge military parade
complete with goose-stepping troops, giant pointy missiles on trailers, low-flying attack choppers, and Bush* in a military uniform festooned with medals and a giant hat, shooting a rifle into the air with one hand.

We're way overdue for some truth in advertising from Mr. Bigshot. I wish that jerk would quit wasting my hard-earned tax dollars on his vanity jaunts.

7. I noticed that the "background" ship drifted out of the way ...
... in mid-speech. * was standing there, hair blowing all over the place, red-faced, looking kind of frustrated. I was half-expecting him to scream at them to "stop the wind, dammit -- I'm the President!"
