Poll question: What PR stunt do YOU think Rove will create 2 months before Nov 2004?
Since the elections in this country have been nothing but PR stunts and the bU$h administration is totally owned and bought by corporations who are throwing money at him to keep him in power, what kind of PR stunt will they pull to gain some points before the election in Nov 2004? Got any other ideas and why?
LETS CALL THEM OUT BEFORE THEY DO IT
then we can tell them we saw through the stunt in February!

1. OBL capture is a good choice.

Red Alert is also a fine distraction.

But, I believe Rove's machinations will surpass those things. I think he has something a little more clever than a repeat of Saddam's capture or the already overused and doubt raising alerts and an attack against a city would call into question the effectiveness of *'s protecting us.

edit: grammar

Rove hires some actors to portray terrorists and right before the election Ridge comes on TV and announces that a MAJOR ATTACK WAS ABOUT TO HIT THE US and we got em! and there will be a whole story on how the attack was aimed at the President by the terrorists and they tried to kill him and all of the good people of DC or Iowa or something..and ..IT WILL ALL BE ON FILM!
add yer own script!

4. Two months before is early September.
That would be a good time for a terrorist attack. Followed by many canceled airline flights, constant heightened alert states, "credible" reports of terrorist cells and "specific, credible" reports of new attacks. None of which happen, of course. But the entire country is primed to be more and more fearful.

In early October, something or another in Iraq, either pulling our troops out altogether, or a ratcheting up of the troops. Either one would be quite effective, depending on which one leaves the U.S. in best control of the oil fields.

About 72 hours before election day itself, Osama is captured! And EVERYTHING else is swept off the news, including the Democratic nominee's specific (and well thought out, I might add) plans to undo the damage wrought by the Bush administration, including but not limited to a roll back of the tax cuts, increased health care which would eventually result in universal health care just like the rest of the civilized world, increased funding for public schools, and reinstating all the cuts of veterans' benefits. (I'll add here that the nominee, although originally not expected to win the nomination, has done wonders at uniting a divided party, and even those who originally thought he was a terrible choice, now all agree he's truly the best man for the job.)

Election day itself will be marred by sporadic reports of impending terror attacks, heavy security at many polling places, and careful identity checks of all who show up to vote. No exit polling permitted. And other polling in the weeks and days leading up to November 2 will have shown wildly dissimilar results, resulting in most people assuming that all polls are highly unreliable. And of course, the preponderance of BBV machines will lead to the unsurprising result that George W Bush wins by a whisker, even though it's a bit surprising that NYC and the San Francisco Bay area seem to have turned out for him in large numbers.

That's just one plausible scenario. There are many possible others.

6. Can you say "Twinpop"??
Remember the popsicles that you had to break apart to share??

They probably have one on ice.. One side, the Ronsicle...the other.. The Osama flavor..

They will probably "find" Osama in early October, and then on the day of (probably) the only debate, they will thaw out Ronsicle, and everything as we know it will cease to exist.. The networks will preempt everything for our national rongasm, and of course * could not be expected to do something as mundane as debate, when the most wonderfulest person in the whole world...ever... with chocolate syup and a cherry on top, has departed...so no debate and then a week later , the funeral to end all funerals will gobble up more tv time, and ..oh by the way, it's election day ..ho-hum:(

10. depends on how bad it looks for bush
if it looks really bad, then I put absolutely nothing past these guys.

In such a case, I predict a "terrorist attack" on a place in a heavily democratic state.

They may not actually cancel the elections.

14. Disruption at the Repug convention
With so many demonstrations it will be easy to infiltrate and create a "situation". Whatever ensues will be used to blame the entire left with the consequences.
This was standard proceedure under both Johnson and Nixon.

16. October, 1972...The Blue Print
Good old Henry Kissinger completely obliterated any McGovern chances when he said "Peace Is At Hand" just days before the '72 election. It rose hopes sky high on election day...despite the fact peace was several months, one massive arial offensive and several more dead Americans later.

Some big "win" in the war on terror fits this scenario real well. Actually that LIHOPish attempted attack that is twarted sounds too Rovian...I still am banking, unfortunately, on an attack on a "friend"...close enough to be felt and scare the masses.

OBL is the wild card for sure...I think his capture will surely be timed to the fates of the Chimpster...with Rove teasing about an "immenent" capture now and then to distract the news cycle or get a quick blip in the polls. Bringing out the real thing is the coup-de-grace...and after that, just like Saddam, what do you play next? Especially when Al Queda hits again.

17. An attack on the Statue of Liberty
As close to the election as possible but possibly sooner if things get really bad. Lady Liberty has been empty since 9-11, so an attack on the statue would be highly emotional but with few casualties.
