Suspect in Saudi Bombing Has Described New Plots to Hijack Planes

WASHINGTON (AP) - A suspect in the May 12 bombings in Saudi Arabia told interrogators about new plots to hijack planes and use them as weapons, but intelligence officials say he could be lying.

Ali Abd al-Rahman al-Faqasi al-Ghamdi, whom U.S. counterterrorism officials describe as a leading al-Qaida operative in Saudi Arabia, reported the possible hijacking plot, said one intelligence official, speaking on the condition of anonymity.

The man, also known as Abu Bakr al-Azdi, surrendered to Saudi authorities on June 26.

Intelligence officials say they consider his threat credible but do not know if he is telling the truth. Other high-level prisoners are believed to have invented plots for their interrogators in order to create public warnings and cause fright.

1. "...in order to create public warnings and cause fright."
And in order to stop the application of electric current to their testicles.

Nice country we used to have, wasn't it?

2. Victims of torture are not reliable sources
for information. If we had someone other than brain-dead simians running our government this info never would have even mad the National Enquirer. Remember last February when the alert level went up and we were told to buy duct tape? More info from a "prisoner". Feeling safer yet?

7. Yeah. Bring back those suicide scuba divers!
That one was hilarious even when we were taking some of these "warnings" seriously once in a while.

What's happened to their creativity? Did it all go into the terrorist futures market scam?

4. Credible, but not true? What the hell does that mean?
"Intelligence officials say they consider his threat credible but do not know if he is telling the truth."

We don't know if he's telling the truth, but we believe it? I'm perplexed.

5. Don't believe a word of it!
Here is why: Terrorists, especially Al Qaeda, form themselves into cells. These cells are totally seperate and know NOTHING about each other, not even the existence of other cells. Why? For the exact reason that this article points out: no-one can resist interrogation (ie torture) for long, and they will eventually spill the beans.

So basically, unless this guy and his cell were going to carry out the attacks, he would know nothing about them.

You want proof? How about this: If he knew about an upcoming attack, wouldn't he also know who was going to do it? So where are the lists of people wanted in connection with this plot?

If he didn't know who was going to do it, wouldn't that be because his superiors were maintaining operational security by not telling him? If so, why tell him about the attack at all?

Finally, if you were a terrorist, and you knew that you had told this guy about an upcoming attack but he had been captured, would you still go through with that attack, or would you change your plans?

Why is it that so many people seem to think Arabs are stupid?

9. But oops, that Australia bit was wrong, haha, nothing to see here
http://www.alertnet.org/thenews/newsdesk/SYD150763.htm

CANBERRA, Aug 1 (Reuters) - The United States has corrected an advisory that warned Australia could be the target of a September 11-style attack, an official in Canberra said on Friday.

Canberra was annoyed last week when the U.S. Department of Homeland Security named Australia alongside the United States, Britain and Italy as possible targets for suicide airliner assaults by the radical Islamic al Qaeda network.

The government and security experts acknowledged that intelligence suggested Australia could be used to launch airliner attacks on another country -- but flatly denied there was any information that Australia could itself be a target.

Following a week of discussions, the Homeland Security Department issued a correction to its advisory, admitting it misread the intelligence, an Australian official said.
