ABC's Terry Moran just did a good piece on the AWOL story:
Not over yet, he indicates.... He states that the records clearly shows inconsistencies and that there is no proof that Bush serve the duty--only that he was paid. They then did a piece on how different the National Guard is today versus the 60-s when it was a common way to avoid Vietnam service....

Peter Jennings had no snide remarks today... he had to acknowledge that this IS a story!

Nightline might be worth checking out tonight. Way to go, Terry Moran and Martha Raditz (spp?)

2. There may be some who disagree with me but I like Chris Bury and
Ted Koppel for the most part. They have always asked some pretty tough questions and don't let the guest skirt around issues. Koppel was interviewing a an X-CIA official and kept saying, "since you haven't answered my question, I am going to ask you again". It was a pretty good slam.

I intend to watch. They hopefully will do a better job than any of the other network reporters.

4. Terry Moran seems like a great reporter.
He was always sitting next to helen Thomas before she got banished. I hope he is sincere and remains a true journalist. Without a free press and conscientious reporters, we are screwed.

5. Yes -- Terry Moran is --
-- a refreshing exception among the Washington press corps. Very strong mind.

Peter Jennings thinks he's James Bond. He's not.

Bush's attempt to defuse the AWOL crisis is going to hurt him a lot more than it helps him.

6. you make a very good point about the defusing bit
WHEN have they ever done a good job on ANYthing?

the only reason they've skated for so long is that the fricking MEDIA has refused to do their jobs, right?

right?

just consider all the stories that have been out there, going all the way back to AWOL, of course, but how bout how BADLY he f***ed Texas, for starters?

if they'd reported the truth Funeralgate as it unfolded, he'd have been in a shitload more trouble over his own perjurious testimony than Clinton ever was over Monica or Paula.

and that's just the tip of the iceberg.

the media is MORE responsible to what that f***head has done to the world than HE is.

all they had to do was tell the benighted a small percentage of what he's done......not a lot, not even a LITTLE, just a TINY bit.

but they never reported a THING; not in a way that resonated, like Love Canal, Love Story, invented the Internet, Gore the liar, etc.

THEY're the ones to blame

7. same with Norah O'Donnell
She raised the discrepancies, and then Tweety asked her why Bush had missed that physical. I could see consternation flash in her eyes for a minute, as she didn't want to say anything about possible substance abuse. She acknowledged that it is a problem.

8. did she say something about drug testing?
already set VCR to tape that, as Gram was watching, and it looked like they were talking about that for a LONG time?

I mentioned somewhere here that I haven't heard/seen anything about the drug issue anywhere but online so far.
