Congressman Bill Delahunt
Since the President announced the end of "major combat operations" in Iraq last May, more than 350 American soldiers have lost their lives.
Meanwhile, as the war's price tag tops $150 billion, and as families of Reservists wonder when their loved ones will return, the White House is scrimping on veterans benefits and other domestic priorities.
Anticipating such problems before the war, I asked fundalmental questions about the "Coalition of the Willing" and subsequent occupation. The Administration never answered. Yet concerns about the rationale and ramifications of the invasion persist as do questions about past US support for Saddam.
To address these issues, several Congressional colleagues and I hold weekly public "Iraq Watch" discussions on the House floor when Congress is in session. We have also fired off a number of written inquiries on specific and contentious Iraq-related subjects.
It's critical for us to speak and seek the truth on matters literally of war and peace.
