My Son & Friends Playing w/ Squirt Guns Pulled Over Police

They hand cuffed them, lectured them for over an hour - Threatened to arrest them and charge them with something, that would be on their records for a very very long time, because they were goofing around with squirt guns in the car.

These boys are smart, funny and still capable of doing really stupid things. They play games in a lake w/ water pistols - found a good deal on them and bought 15 for a buck a piece.

Serves them right for shooting water at each other. Those cops were just doing their job; to wit: arrest anyone with deadly water pistols, damn.

You would think they would be out there looking for the killers of OJs wife.

State patrol guy said they were all very respectful of the officers. While they were hand cuffed and spread against the car.

5. Happened to me when I was 16

They said we scared some old lady, she "might have thought they were real." Which would have been interesting, since the squirt guns were FLOURESCENT GREEN. Yanked the seats out of the pick-up truck looking for drugs, found none, and then left us to put the seats back in.

a california ID card because some nazi in a blue uniform told him he would "Haul his ass in jail" for not having ID. He was 14 years old.

12. Detained While Another Cop & State Patrol Officer Came

The State Patrol guy was a real dick. Said he had jurisdiction over the others and he was considering charging them with several different counts. So there were 3 cop cars on the highway sent to deal with these 4 teens, all 16 years of age.

State Patrol guy phoned me an hour ago. This is 5 hours after the fact. I was surprised he phoned actually, i thought they just were trying to scare them by saying they would phone their parents.

What can I say, they are still goofy - they bought them to play in the lake, when they play some silly game based on a video game.

I few years ago I was reading stories about people who were shot and killed because they pointed toy guns at the police. This was in Iowa.
My welcome to Iowa was to get pulled over for a seatbelt violation. Then the cop got in my face about weapons. Like a nervous, naive person who had just worked a ten hour night shift, I reached into my car, and got frisked, cuffed, and had my car searched. That last part was the whole point of the exercise - excuse to search a car and maybe find some drugs or weapons.
Last week I went out to see what my dogs were barking at, and I heard some guy yelling. I look over and a block away there is a cop with his gun drawn ordering people out of this car one at a time to back up towards him. There are four cop cars there. What I make out from my eavesdropping is that someone in the car made a joke about being kidnapped which set the whole thing off.
With all the gun violence in this country, even the police are nervous. If they see someone being held at gunpoint in a car, then they have to investigate. Lots of cops have an adversarial attitude towards anyone who isn't middle aged, short-haired, white or suitably docile. Lots of us may have adversarial attitudes towards the cops. I like to remind them that they work for me, so I would want to know what their reasoning was for escalating the situation, instead of sending them on their way when they discovered they were squirt guns.
