Over FIVE HUNDRED PROOFS of GodŐs Existence
Edited on Thu Jul-31-03 11:18 PM by Wonk
There have been so many religious threads on DU today, some of which turned into flamewars, that I figured one more was in order ;-)

http://www.godlessgeeks.com/LINKS/GodProof.htm

on edit: I found another even longer list of fallacious arguments.
http://facts4god.faithweb.com/thelist.html

Which one is your favorite?

No, I don't know that Atheists should be considered as citizens, nor should they be considered patriots. - George H. W. Bush

If matter is too complicated to exist without a creator, how can a 'god' exist without a creator? If something as complicated as a 'god' can exist without a creator why cannot simple matter exist without a creator?

1. Too funny!
Here's my favorite

ARGUMENT FROM WHAT MAKES SENSE
(1) Doesn't it just make more sense that an all-knowing, all-powerful, all-good deity created the world out of nothingness, from magic, essentially, and then punished us for eating a piece of fruit, and then incarnated himself in human flesh and came down to shed his own blood so he could break his own rules, and then went through hell on a temporary basis and then went back into the sky and promised to come back and take everyone who believed in him to this heaven no one has ever seen?
(2) Well, doesn't it?
(3) Therefore, God exists.

5. My fave
21. BOATWRIGHT'S ARGUMENT
(1) Ha ha ha.
(2) Therefore, God exists.

For those that do not know Boatwright is a theist that debates on usenet. Having argued with him before I can atest that this is a very accurate portrayal.

6. #50 is the best.
50.ARGUMENT FROM INFINITE REGRESS
(1) Ask atheists what caused the Big Bang.
(2) Regardless of their answer, ask how they know this.
(3) Continue process until the atheist admits he doesn't know the answer to one of your
questions.
(4) You win!
(5) Therefore, God exists.

I guess I like it so much because I was once victim to this tactic.

7. Didn't notice if Boaties other arg was in the list
He had an arg that twisted math, science, and history into a pretzel and he claimed he could make genesis match up with reality. He had to use slow light and a meriad of other tricks.

Love exists.
God is love.
Therefore God exists.

...some of the posters here are deeply in need of therapy.

11. #216 is pretty close to that
216. ARGUMENT FROM LOVE

1) What about love, atheists? You believe in love, right? You don't deny that love exists, do you? Love!
2) Therefore, God exists.

29. ARGUMENT FROM BLINDNESS (II)

(1) God is love.
(2) Love is blind.
(3) Ray Charles is blind.
(4) Therefore, Ray Charles is God.
(5) Therefore, God exists.

13. Good old reason #3
That's my favorite because it is the most simple and elegant for any and all claptrap. Religious, political, or otherwise.

Like the one I use for my personal belief:

1. I define gods as higher power, that which volitional consciousness can not fully predict or control.

2. Weather is a higher power, which volitional consciousness can not fully predict or control.

3. God exists as weather.

If you see where this ontological argument goes, you can see the fun.

16. God cannot be proven to exist
but neither can the existense of God be disproven

The whole excercise is academic.

Spirituality is not a subset of science, therefore does not exist within the rules that govern the sciences.

If a "theist" is arguing to prove that God exists, ignore them, they are ignorant.

17. What I find funny is that it's easier to argue that God exists.
Than it is to do otherwise.

Read The Dragon in My Garage by Carl Sagan.

19. Since it's basically impossible
To prove that anything DOESN'T exist, I can see why this might be true.
