Humans are an inevitability,
a mathmatical probability, and nothing more.

Tell me why i'm wrong, tell me why i'm right, make fun of me just to spite, this is my first religion post, do your worst.

1. what's religion about it?
Humans exist, therefore are ipso facto defuncto something or other inevitable. A mathematical certainty, certainly.

2. Every thing is mathmatically probable, by that logic
Edited on Fri Aug-01-03 12:41 AM by Must_B_Free
and it is good logic, in my opinion.

If you want to get religious, I believe that everything and every possibility exists simultaneously. And my conception of God is the sum total of all matter, time and energy in the universe, in short, everything.

3. mmmm....nah.
You mean with life being part of the equation? Could it be said that life is a mathematical inevitability? Does "inevitable" always mean "following laws of mathematics"? From what point in earth's history does this formula begin?

Anyway, no. Carbon and protein atoms aren't bus-drivers and Inuits waiting to be born. The info just isn't there. Animal behavior doesn't follow laws of mathematics.

The mathematical explanation can appear to make sense, but only when deliberately applied over known history. If it were a valid theory, we should be able to extrapolate the future incarnation of all species, no?

Plus, the definition of human that I use includes "creativity" - being able to think beyond given data. Mathematics can't quantify that.

4. Religion and politics
Religion has impact on the world around us. It has an impact on politics. Therefor it is valuable to discuss it. Particularly to let others in the forum open dialog between the various camps to learn what we can about each other. As there is a concerted effort on the part of some religious fanatics to turn this into a theocratic nation it behooves us to familiarise ourselves with their tactics.

What is of little value in this forum is actually attempting to debate the fundimental aspects of religion. The existance of god or whatever the specifics of the religion in question postulate. There are entire forums and web sites consumed by this discussion and it is not served well within a political discussion forum. We are here to find allies and compatriots who are ready to stand by our side to defend the values we share in common. Taking shots at each others belief systems does not serve this goal.

5. The foundations of religion is just as political as
the values within each religion. To understand about someone's religion, and point of veiws, it is important to understand how and why these beliefs were generated. No where on this post, does it incurage taking shots at each other, anymore than any other religious thread does.

While I can appreciate the thought process you used to come to such a solution, I do not agree with it. For bringing liberals together, goes beyond just idea's aspoused from other more basic ideas. The centralized ideas, the reason they believe gays should be married, or the reason one thinks the Death Penalty is immoral, is created from a more important core set of standards/morals, ergo whether their is a god or not is important to political understandings. The beliefs that you think are productive, the specific understandings of how things work, are apsoused from a more centralized processes.

Know thy enemy, can be cross applied to this, it goes into the understanding of my fellow liberal, and is extremely productive.

6. Religion is superstition
I don't mean just the major religions. All religion.

There are two ways to develop a worldview. One is to assume certain pre-existing truths and the other is to gather information and develop hypotheses from this information. The former is faith, the latter is commonly called the scientific method. I trust the latter more than the former.

We really shouldn't discuss these matters here. It never does any good.
