Michael Moore a socialist???
I remember Terry Holt (Bush's re-election supervison) said that "These AWOL charges were brought up by a socialist film-maker, Michael Moore and a political hack, Terry McCAullife..." It was a few days back. I may not be the most knowledgable guy on Michael Moore but the films I have seen and the books I have read tell me nothing of him being a socialist (Not that there is anything wrong with that). I guess when you are vocal about Bush, you are somehow a commie. Who knew???

1. A socialist is much different than a communist.
And I'm sure you know that. I, as an ex-social-worker, appreciate a strong social infrastructure with services for families and the poor. And educational opportunities for all!

3. well
I did not mean to equate the two as political viewpoints. I was comparing them because many less-educated Americans see the two as equivalent. They are told socialism is bad just like how communism is bad and Laissez faire is the work of God Himself. I'm sorry if it phrased my post like I equated the two.

2. "Socialist" is just another epithet to spit venomously at liberals.
It's a Gingrich/Atwater/Rove thing.

5. it doesn't mean much as a label
but it's pretty fair to say Moore's views are socialistic, and you could say that about a lot of people including myself and two dem presidential candidates, Dennis and Al.

7. Well, he might be a socialist. Let's see a few quotes from Jesus:
Mt 19:21 Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that
thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven:
and come and follow me.

Mark 10:21 Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing
thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the
poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the
cross, and follow me.

Luke 19:8 And Zacchaeus stood, and said unto the Lord: Behold, Lord, the
half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have taken any thing from
any man by false accusation, I restore him fourfold.

John 13:29 For some of them thought, because Judas had the bag, that Jesus
had said unto him, Buy those things that we have need of against the
feast; or, that he should give something to the poor.

1 Cor 13:3 And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I
give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.

10. Michael Moore, IMHO, is a red-blooded American capitalist
His dad worked at the GM plant in Flint, MI, and his family and his neighbors all thrived. When GM shipped its manufacturing plants overseas, the town was devastated. Now the major corporations are trying to turn this whole nation into Flint, and they're succeeding spectacularly. Moore has spoken out against this decidedly un-American activity for decades.

Moore a Socialist? I don't think so. Moore's biggest beef with our economic system is that it's stacked heavier than it ever has been against the little guy, and I seem to think he'd be happiest with a regulated, fair system of capitalism. The problem with our system today, which is really supercorporatism, is that for the major corporations there ARE NO RULES, and they are free to screw us at every opportunity, and do.

11. 100% spot on

If anyone these days dares to stand up and suggest that the big boys are hurting the country with their rampant greed, they get called a socialist or some pejorative term. My Dad was a union mand who grew up in the great depression. He said "they used to call us union people communists, then a lot of us came back from the Korean war and they couldn't use that one anymore,so they started with the socialist label."

Love your sig line EA.
