Bush's own words on military service during the Vietnam War
http://www.nydailynews.com/front/story/163815p-143464c.html

<snip>"I'm saying to myself, 'What do I want to do?' I think I don't want to be an infantry guy as a private in Vietnam. What I do decide to want to do is learn to fly."

Lubbock Avalanche-Journal, 1989

"I was not prepared to shoot my eardrum out with a shotgun in order to get a deferment. Nor was I willing to go to Canada. So I chose to better myself by learning how to fly airplanes."

Dallas Morning News, Feb. 25, 1990

"I don't want to play like I was somebody out there marching when I wasn't. It was either Canada or the service. ... Somebody said the Guard was looking for pilots. All I know is, there weren't that many people trying to be pilots."

Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Nov. 29, 1998

3. But Viet Nam was a political war
at least according to W.

In his statements on MTP last week, when Timmy asked him why he didn't volunteer or enlist to go to Viet Nam, part of his reason was because he decided it was a political war and it was run by the politicians. Gee wizz W, then where do you get the right to send Americans troops to fight two political wars for you?

Russert: But you didn't volunteer or enlist to go.

President Bush: No, I didn't. You're right. I served. I flew fighters and enjoyed it, and provided a service to our country. In those days we had what was called "air defense command," and it was a part of the air defense command system.

The thing about the Vietnam War that troubles me as I look back was it was a political war. We had politicians making military decisions, and it is lessons that any president must learn, and that is to the set the goal and the objective and allow the military to come up with the plans to achieve that objective. And those are essential lessons to be learned from the Vietnam War.

10. That amoral sack of shit!
Not a fucking thing about the morality of war. Nada, zip. The fascist piece of shit wreaks of cowardice: morally, emotionally, and physically.

All military service was to him was an opportunity to learn to fly. And when that wasn't good enough he resorted to snorting coke. What a vapid, vaccuous and degenerate sleaze.

This country is going to pay dearly for their complacency in allowing him to take over this country.

4. At the expense of the tax payer
Why waste so much tax money on pilot training only to have it squandered on a failed political campaign in Alabama.

"I was not prepared to shoot my eardrum out with a shotgun in order to get a deferment. Nor was I willing to go to Canada. So I chose to better myself by learning how to fly airplanes."

He was especially not prepared to aid in failed GOP campaign at the Guards and tax payers expense.

5. I didn't want to go either, but I did.
I was one of those infantry guys in Vietnam. Let's see now. When I was in bush overseas you were farting around in DKE, cheer leading, stealing wreaths and drawing a strong C GPA. Great urge to fly huh? Guess that's why you kept your flying status current by taking the military required physical. Monkeyballs..you are the biggest pile of cowardly monkey shit who has ever stuck his fraudulent slimy ass in the Oval Office.

6. So if he had scored 1 point less on his test
Bush Jr. would have fled to Canada. Interesting eh?

7. Not the only one.

Bush wasn't the only male in this country trying to avoid the draft. However, he acted like he served when he didn't.

IF you didn't perform part of your duty, they sent you to Vietnam. He didn't do that either. He got off with doing public service instead.

The new draft law S 89 IS and Smart Border Act..which Bush takes great power does not allow those drafted or even those qualified to flee to Canada.

He lied!! Not good for Clinton but OK for Bush? The lie about sex is more than serving one's country is it not?

Not one thing about it being a wrong war or he disapproved of it.

His actions as the leader of our country doesn't ring that he cares about it's survival. He seems to be more intereted in International corporations and large unions.

The rest of our society must do more that he did. Arrogance of the rich and powerful.

8. Because Nam was a political war
chimp decides not to fight. Nam was the same as Korea, fighting the scourge of Communism. So by logic, the fight against communism was a political war in chimps brain. Since we all know that Reagan (sarcasm upload) ended the cold war, was this a political pronouncement from Ronnie? Almost 50 years of national dedication to fight against the evil of communism, for chimp, was a war for political reasons only. Every word that shits out of that mans hole is poetry.

11. I personally have nothing wrong
with someone not wanting to go to Vietnam, or dodging deployment. I just want them to be honest about it. If Bush said today, "I did not want to go because I didn't believe the war was justified" then I would be thanks for being honest. I don't even have a huge problem with a guy screwing up when he was in college. I sure as hell don't want to be judged about what I did in my college days. It is just the lies that emanate out of the white house are what is disgusting. I swear, if he were honest about the AWOL story, he would gain popularity, I really believe.

12. Would it bother you to know that he used his daddy's influence...
...so he would not have to go to the jungles of Vietnam all the while knowing he sent someone else to probably die in his place? Or is that just one of the bonuses of being a "Fortunate Son" and we have to get used to that? Just for the record it bothers the hell out of me.

Don

Edited on Sat Feb-14-04 05:20 PM by neoteric lefty
it was G.W. using his daddy's influence or it was G.H.W. using his own influence to make sure his son did not go to an unjustified war. Is it wrong for a man to do all he can within is power to make sure his son does not go to war? We can debate that at length. His service in the Nat'l Gaurd isn't what gets me upset, it is the dishonesty and contempt for others that he has when talking about that time in his life that pisses me off.

13. These quotes are astounding when one remembers
that they were said by a pResident that has
deliberately sent thousands of soldiers off
to fight an unnecessary war. Just look at the
deaths and the disabled who truly believed
they were going to disarm a nation that was
going to attack us at any moment.

These quotes could and probably should be used
by Kerry during the campaign. Thirty years ago
does not matter, he manipulated the military to
do his bidding and lied to the American people.

He needs to be impeached!
