I turned on CNN and the scene outside the San Francisco Courthouse makes me want to cry. Cry with sadness and happiness for the people in this nation who have been denied their rights.
There is a line around the courthouse, and apparently more and more people are showing up to claim the full right to marry the person they love.
Some of the people are dressed formally, in tuxes with buttonieres. One guy was wearing a tiara. :)
The mayor came on tv and noted that in his lifetimes, blacks and white were also given the right to marry, and before that, Catholics and Protestants had been denied the right to marry.
These prohibitions are now unthinkable.
So congrats to all my brothers and sisters in America who are now allowed the right that I was given merely by an accident of fate, and which has been denied to you for the same reason.
I know the struggle is not over, but today is a wonderful day.
Salut!
