2. No, but he might have made statements against muslims like this. What I see as a reason is that in many parts of Europe, there are kind of new alliances. The empty newspeech of neoliberalism is seeking new allies.
The kind of minority-issues that were an important part of the left movements during the 60s are separated from their progressive context as long as they don't touch social issues.
Have a gay righwing neoliberal asshole as a mayor too, here in Hamburg, Germany, but even he is much smarter than this racist narcistic idiot Fortuyn. There are people, I miss more:-)

2. No, because he was never elected Dutch PM. But yes, much of his anti-immigrant stance was based on a very legitimate criticism of traditional Islam for being anti-woman and homophobic, among others. Fortuyn was intellectually honest, something that's exceedingly rare among xenophobes.
