Air Force One doing Daytona 500 fly-over
What a crock of shit. This is pure unadultarated politics. Shameless. Bush* doesn't have the attention span of most "NASCAR" dads to watch an entire race.

10. Doesn't Air Force One normal land on the first attempt.
. . .this a a deliberate buzz, I even think he circled the track. Very unnecessary.

AWOL. He's probably flying Air Force One himself.

20. Best estimate on cost for AF1...
$60 - 80,000 PER HOUR Not to mention the getting the Limo's down there (On an Air Force C-17 Transport)

And yes, it is on the Taxpayers dime.

21. If he stays for the entire race.....
this stunt could backfire, bigtime! It did when he came to Ga on MLK B-Day and had the traffic all tied up for hours because they have to block the streets to accomodate his motorcade.

With all the fans trying to leave after the race, and all charged up from the excitement, won't they just LOVE sitting in the traffic lines created because GW thought he had to be there!!!!!

I sure know how much I loved it when I had to sit on the tarmac for a couple of hours because they ground all air traffic for 30 minutes before and 30 minutes after AF1 comes and goes. The backup it couses isn't loved by anyone!

14. I don't know why I'm doing this, but...
...in the interest of fairness, the Daytona Airport is adjacent to the Speedway, so it's probably not all that big a deal - assuming they were landing in Daytona anyway. Just FYI.

18. It was a REAL fly-over. Banking the plane and all.
this was no coincidence. I don't know but I would think in the interest of safety other aircraft have probably been re-rounted so they DON'T come over the track.

26. It shows the complete hypocrisy of this man
After 9/11, you can not take a purse bigger than like 6 inches into any sporting events because of 'security concerns' and all major sporting events are a 'no fly zone'. But it's okay to fly Air Force One over a HUGE event and then have the president attend. Wouldn't that increase the 'security concerns' for all those people there?

He is such a :puke:

And then the irony of the pre-show report of how there are not as many cars this year because they can not find corporate sponsors due to the sucky economy.

ps He probably thinks the Busch race is name after him.

what a crock of garbage - our taxpayer money and he gets one hell of a free advertisement today - who's paying for all the extra security there because of him. Don't mean to sound petty, but this is getting old in a hurry.

32. Did he fly directly over the track? And at what altitude?
Edited on Sun Feb-15-04 01:35 PM by alg0912
I don't think AF1 is exempt from the FAR's:

http://www.risingup.com/fars/info/part91-119-FAR.shtml

<snip>
Sec. 91.119 - Minimum safe altitudes: General.

Except when necessary for takeoff or landing, no person may operate an aircraft below the following altitudes:

(b) Over congested areas. Over any congested area of a city, town, or settlement, or over any open air assembly of persons, an altitude of 1,000 feet above the highest obstacle within a horizontal radius of 2,000 feet of the aircraft.
</snip>

I'd be jumpy as hell if I were at the Daytona 500 today, knowing that Shrub was going to attend. Hearing a jetliner roar overhead probably caused some to empty their bladders...

33. Is * going to play politics at all 36 races
This bastard is shameless. Is it possible that he will schedule appearances that mirror the entire NASCAR schedule so that he can charge these expesnses to the tax payer? Maybe this is his idea for giving the boost to the economy with money being spent to provide security, gas, and etc..
