“I cringe every morning when the radio goes on or the TV goes on and they say another soldier’s been shot,” said Janice Brewer of Charlotte, whose son, Rob, 26, is an Army captain in Baghdad.
“He keeps telling me, ‘Don’t worry, Mom, I’m in a pretty guarded area and I’m not out on the streets very often.’ He might not be there, but there are an awful lot of other soldiers who are,” she said.
Other parents mention the same kind of cringing, no matter whether their sons and daughters are in the line of fire abroad or safely stateside.
