What happened to "We're an inch away from getting Saddam"?

After the assassinations of his two sons, the media went crazy saying that Saddam was in danger of imminent capture/assassination. This week's Newsweak had the cover title: Their Final Days - Is Saddam Next?

Yet on TV yesterday, I saw the military shill who so gleefully announced the double assassination back-pedaling like nobody's business on the capture of SH. And even the idiot shrub said as much in his drunken, incoherent way.

We all knew the story was BS, and of course the media has dropped it like it never existed, but I wonder what is really going on.

Has anyone seen any continuing news reports on the subject? Or is it another free ride for the despot (bush, that is)?
