website owners: promote paper ballots.
If you own or contribute to a website, please add a banner from VerifiedVoting.org to promote paper ballots for electronic voting machines.

You don't have to download an image file. Just copy and paste code below one of these banners:

The Secretary of State should issue a report soon about what type of machines they will buy. Right now it's unclear.

6. Woops!

When ya do that, please use the HTML that we have provided so ya grab the banner image from our server dynamically.

As you may have noticed, after we annointed (lol) a winner in our logo contest, we asked the artist (Jay) to join us. He has since performed a redesign of our site nav and header.

We plan to build new banners (and in fact, any talented artists who wish to build banners using our new logo would be very welcome). When those new banners are available - we will replace the old ones with the new ones so they appear automatically on your site.

Cool? Thanks!

And Eric J, I gotta thank you publicly. You're one of my personal heroes here in DU for keeping this active.

Greg

8. Great Idea
No matter how many people really vote for the Dem nominee, Bush will be elected if touchscreen voting is allowed without any means of verification.

We must all work harder on this issue than any other one. This is how Bushista's plan to get a second term - by cheating again!

Think I will add this to my signature.

10. Don't forget!!!
Hey, this is great, but don't forget to ask for random manual audits too. As we have found out in Washington State, they will give you:

1. A voter verified paper record of only poll site based electronic devices

2. An audit of ONLY those devices

3. No requirement to audit until 2006

In Washington State, a good chunk of people vote by mail, so only an audit of the one DRE per poll site (current projection), well, you can see how useless that is.

And by being very explicit about poll site only device producing a vvpb, the door is open for non-poll site based systems that don't produce vvpb- aka, Internet. (Our election officials really want to go Internet)

Then, ONLY due to one county with DRE's, and only half the county votes on them anyway, they want to delay any audits, such as they are, until 2006.

So please, ask for VVPB, but also demand the audits that make the VVPB really work.

Good job everyone!

I'd like more audits, but at least it's something.

While your name is GreenPartyVoter, I hope that in the 2004 Presidential election, you will consider voting for the Democratic ticket.

21. great cause...can someone tell me
why opti-scan machines are not the way to go? We use them in several municipalities in Wisconsin. I'm just wondering why they do not seem to be a option for those interested in ballot reform. They provide instant tally and a paper trail and they are easy to understand. And..no, I don't own the company or have any business interest in any opti-scan corporation! Thanks!

22. Optical scan ballots are good.
Optical scan ballots are good. They offer reliability and a built-in paper-trail.

But the voting-machine companies would rather a county pay them big bucks for paperless touchscreen machines, and they aren't above giving high-paying jobs to election officials who buy crummy touchscreen machines instead of good optical-scan machines.

It's about corruption.
