Protesting the Republican Convention?
If anyone is aware of any planned protests during the Repub Convention could you please post the info? I want to make reservations sooner rather than later so I'm sure to get a hotel room.

2. thought
Sarcastically (maybe seriously), where will the "Free speech zones" be established - Hoboken?

Seriously though, good for you for planning to go and fight the repug's message of fear, hate and intolerance.

5. Did anyone else hear that
the administration is considering using National Guard and Army Reserve troops to provide "security" for the GOP convention? I heard it mentioned on IE America yesterday but have seen no links elsewhere.
They are concerned that the protests may become violent. You know how those liberals are- "they say they want peace, but they're really violent people!" I was once told this by a republican neighbor.
Scary!

7. I hadn't heard about the National Guard
Are there any left to do this? I wouldn't be surprised however, as the NYC police commissioner and the mayor have already said they will not restrict New Yorker's right to assemble and protest. They caught a hell of a lot of flack for the way they handled the anti-war protests last February. When I participated in the March demonstration, they were nothing but courteous.

Anyway, cops usually do not support Republicans because of their pro-gun stance.

There was a thread about NG being "considered" for use on here a day or two ago.

On edit, I am new to the "search" feature and wasn't able to find the thread. Perhaps someone with more exp. can find it and link it in for you.

6. I could put up one or two people
Perhaps NYC Du-ers can offer sofas or floors to folks coming into town. I could take one or two (sofa and aerobed). More if you are willing to sleep on the floor with a sleeping bag.

PM me to discuss details.

Note: if you are a lurking Freeper and think you'll get to stay, forget it, you'll be on the street in a hummingbird's heartbeat.
