How are we Dems going to deal with this issue? Curious about ideas.

Republicans constantly complain that Democrats play the "race card" whenever blacks or other minorities are involved in some political question or nomination or the like. And certainly the charge is sometimes valid.

The striking contrast, however, is with Republicans who now do this in virtually every case, even in the most preposterous instances, without a hint of shame, and usually without garnering much of any criticism at all from the capital's self-styled arbiters of political sportsmanship.

So far Senate Democrats have stalled three of the president's appeals court nominees: Miguel A. Estrada , Priscilla R. Owen, and today William H. Pryor, Jr.

Of those three, Republicans accused Democrats of opposing two on the basis of religious and/or racial prejudice.

2. The democratic leadership is failing us here.
Yo, McAuliffe, where are you?

When anti-Catholic bias is brought up, resurrect JFK; regarding the race card business, you are correct: they are playing the race card, not us. We need to point out we are "color-blind" and care only about someone's record and hammer that and hammer that and hammer that home, perhaps with some disgusting tv ads because they work with repukes. Instead, the head demos simply hang back and become defensive. It's time we take the offense and run with it.

This is so damn frustrating! :bounce:

3. I think we need to write our Dems and people who have the money
to start putting out our message and we also need to address the radio situation as well.

4. Kind of related

Julian Epstein was on "Scarborough Country," I think, which is now in the running for the worst news analysis show on television, and he said that the charge that the Democrats were against Pryor because he was Catholic was "absurd" and the question was "nearing stupidity." I loved hearing him say that.

5. The Solution is Simple:
The Dem. members of the Senate Judiciary Committee put together a list of (supposedly and presumably) Catholic judges whose nominations they WOULD support, sending the list to the Vatican, the Natl. Council of Bishops, and the press corps.

7. Watch Hillarys speech on C-Span
12:00 eastern I think.

She had alot of excellent points to make on these very issues. 145 judges have been confirmed. 4 held up. If it's Catholicism, why is the death penalty not being brought up. She just embarrassed them when she went over the 'No Catholics Need Apply" ad. She talked about wondering how far back the Republican Party wants to take us. Said the Democrats had known the Bushies wanted to undo everything from the Clinton Administration. But apparently they want to undo everything clear back to FDR and maybe all the way back to Teddy. Admitted the Democratic Party had been a little slow to realize what the Bush agenda really was. Expressed how important it is for this group of lawyers to speak out to colleagues, clients and friends.

It was a great speech, awesome. Make you proud to be a Democrat.

9. Give credit to the voters
I think that most people see through this obvious ploy by the party of wealthy white men. Those that don't, or claim not to, aren't likely to vote for Dems anyway.

The real question here is about a woman's right to abortion. The rest is a smokescreen.
