Do We Really Have to "Pander" to This???
A profile of how it really "is" in America...........I'm here in Maine; I was sitting around the pool at a resort here where I play golf; and I was listening to the conversation. The conversation was being held in the foreign tongue called "Jersey"---a group of people who came here together on vacation.

A little pudgy nome-like woman was twitting about the deaths of the two Saddam boys and was crowing about how we were right, fast on the trail of Saddam himself. She was orgasmic. She was telling them all how she expected to turn on tv any minute and find that they caught him, blah, blah, blah. The blood had to be trickling down my throat as I tried to bite my tongue off. Finally, one "beached whale" type who was soaking up rays said very quietly, "yeah, but I wish they had caught that other one". Total "dumb" fell over the group. Finally one kinda figured out what she was talking about---but none of them could remember the name of the other one. I wanted to scream: bin Laden you dumb fuckers - the ONE WHO ACTUALLY DID SOMETHING TO US!!! The conversation then died because they couldn't figure out what they should be afraid of.

I thought to myself that it is almost a joke for us to think that bringing forth "issues" and presenting alternatives to the American people means fuck to these idiots. What are we to do, folks?? Really? I suggest that we start pushing a rumor that the white house dog is pregnant with Bush's pup 'cause he fucks dogs. I'm serious. That is something they would believe and could sink their teeth into 'cause their brains don't exist. It just takes a big "teeee-veee" implant of lies and slop into their brains to manipulate them. Hitler would have died for such easy prey. I'm amazed they are even able to make a living, tie their shoes, wipe their asses and (frightening thought) raise children. They only possible thing I can think of that might ding their bell is a few kids or grandkids sent home in bodybags. The message we send better be written in kindergarten finger paints.

9. Ok,
Sounded like you might have been at either Sugarloaf or Smaoset.

Poland Springs GC is a nice one. If you have the time head over the 'Loaf for a challange, but bring a couple dozen balls with ya, them woods are deep!

Have a good time in Maine.

13. Raptor--play the "Loaf" at least three times a year
and there's nothing like shooting off the cliffs on 10 and 11 (actually pared 11 last time)...but that course is a killer!!! And play Samoset about 3 times a year also...that one I can handle. Now if you want a real Mickey Mouse course, play Cape Arundel (Bush's course---what a fucking nothing dump--and no one would know that by watching the press, would they??). That one I ate up the very first time I played it. He's about as much a golfer apparently as he is a cowboy!!!!!!!!!

20. It's not Golf when he and his Father play it.
It's some sort of demented speed freak version. Think Bush the Elder holds the record at 1 hr 42 mins for 18 with a foursome.

I belong to a small 9-holer up north here. Friend and I tried to beat that record with just the two of us and damm near burned out the motor on my golf cart!!!!!!!!!

15. Isn't a town--it's a resort overlooking the White Mountains
and the old bottling works is about 30 yards from the third tee---it's an old (rebuilt) mountain Inn and the golf is basically mountain golf (you're either shooting up or shooting down---nothing flat--old Donald Ross course). All the presidents up to and including JFK played and stayed there. Now it's taken over by "Jersey" and Mass people!!!!!!!!!

But, hey, I lived in Joisey for 7 years, so be careful what you say....

3. Remember that this is only your interpretation of what they were

thinking. Perhaps the little pudgy gnome-woman is a ditz who goes off on tangents all the time and when the "beached whale" spoke, it shut her up while the others all thought, "Good on you! When will she ever wake up that Saddam never did anything to us?!" Perhaps "the other one" is even an in-joke about the she-gnome being unable to remember Osama's name.

In reality, they may not have the political sophistication I attributed to them but are they really as hopeless as you suggest? They are playing golf at a resort so I suspect they must be able to tie their shoes and otherwise function in the world.

Yes, we need to keep our message simple and easy to understand. Most people don't know as much about news and politics as DUers do. But they're the voters we've got to work with.

Don't despair, just keep it simple, and keep on saying it.

4. Some really stupid MoFos live in Maine.

Before I get flammed, I have relatives there that are truly rich and without remorse for anybody who isn't pasty white.

Dumb fuckers they are. Dumb, xenophobic, bigoted, rascist POS that ever walked the planet.

I apologise to Maine for their existence. Maybe they are the ones that you heard Starpass.

I hope not.

8. It's ok MUAD_DIB
since they're tourists and out-of-staters (or as we call'em "flatlanders"), we just smile, seperate them from their money, and send them back home.

We're quite used to it by now. Oh care for a plaster ashtray shaped like a Lobster? Cheap, 20 Bucks

11. LOL!
Down here (New Orleans) we say, "Here, have a Hurricane, you'll like it. No, really, take two!"

Or, "Beads? Sure, we've got lots of beads... $20 for plastic, made in Taiwan, beads of whatever color you like."

and i too often am guilty as well. rather than jumping in feet first and getting into an argument i all too often bite my tongue in the interest of keeping the peace. not that i don't think i couldn't out debate these people or don't enjoy and intelligent discussion but in general i avoid confrontation where unnecessary. do you think that is an inherent fault of pacifists?? squeaky wheel and all that rot??

anyway, it has gotten me to thinking that really the solution for me and maybe for many of us is not to keep silent nor to start an argument but enter the discussion lightly and slip our knowledge in gently, allowing whatever pearls of wisdom may be accepted. certainly these women would hear nothing LIHOP or MIHOP but maybe a gentle "his name is osama bin laden, the guy who did 911. isn't it a shame our boys are dying in iraq and we don't even know what country this bin laden guy is in? he's a saudi, you know, got his money from them. worked out of afghanastan but now may be in pakistan."

i dunno, that's an clean entry without raising suspicions that you are a commie, maybe. once you're in you can drop a few more facts on em as you judge their receptiveness. thanks for this post, starpass and thanks for the reply, nsma. i now have my daily self-improvement project done.

on edit: lMYao as well, very funny and well written, starpass. and an 84 is awesome for someone of the female persuasion of any age.

17. Pandering to the masses
The GOP continues to exist dispite the absolute bankrupcy of its ideals because it understands how to pander to these fools.

Pander to the ignorant masses or lose their vote. It's just that simple.

19. Think of it this way
She's probably upset that American troops are dying in Iraq. When Uday and Qusay were killed, it was assumed by many that their deaths would make a lot of the threat against our troops go away.

I also think Democrats need to stop letting conservatives define the terms of debate. It's not a question of if Saddam had WMD. We all know he had something; the questions were what he had; how powerful his weapons were; what, if anything, he was trying to acquire; how he planned to use them; and so on and so forth. That's just one example of many. When we let them define the terms of debate, like when they do it with this "all or nothing approach," they get away with spreading their bullshit.

21. sympathies
Starpass, I certainly share your frustration with the wilfully and aggressively incurious and ignorant. Pandering to them need not be inevitable. Some candidates win without condescencion on that scale. In all cases, though, you need a few tools: good ways to cope with frustration in the short term, the determination to set a good example, and support for public education. I suspect that you need only work on that first one.
