Ideas for DU or other website. Thoughts?

I've seen a few people here suggest a forum where freepers would be welcome to come in and debate. Rightly, the Admins shot the idea down each time.

1.) But what if we have a forum where DU'ers pose as freepers and debate from their perspective - giving their typical talking points. It might sharpen our debate skills. However, that still might be a violation of the TOS because GOP talking points would still be in play on DU.

If that would be the case, how about a forum where the usual freeper monkey mail is posted and we can all shoot it down and formulate a clear, concise counter for the e-mail?

In addition, what would it take to have DU (or another site) "sponser" public debates between well known liberal and conservative personalities? Say we get one of ours to agree (Mike Malloy, Randi Rhodes, etc.) then issue a formal challenge to Hannity of Limbaugh, etc.

My bet would be that the conservative would NOT accept - then we could play them up as scared.

1. Long ago I frequented

Michael Moore's DB. It was much like you describe, freeper-types and DUer-types. What a horrible nightmare it was to try talking to them. They cannot reason and they are quite allergic to facts.

I am hard-pressed to think of a bigger waste of time.

That board supports a pretty lively and often confrontational dialog that covers the political spectrum.
