What do you think about male-bashing.
I have posted this on a conservative board, and now I will post the same question for the liberals. Unfortunatly I can't post polls as I can't use a credit card online.

There has been lots of debate on wether male bashing which is the huge new fad in our country is funny or cruel. First it was on greeting cards and now on T-shirts. Glenn Sacks http://www.hisside.com/join_his_side_campaign.htm>launched a campaign against that stuff.

Some people consider that stuff funny. They think that protesting a T-shirt would be sinking to the depths of political correctness, and that men who do it have issues with women.

Others consider it abusive. They consider demeaning any group to be bad.

But there is a third option. I consider it funny in places where both genders are free to engage in bashing. Like Internet. Women can post stupid men jokes, while men can post stupid blonde jokes. I consider it cruel in schools where men who bash women will be sued for hostile work environment. If male bashing starts at my school I will sue.

What would be your opinion on the issue?

1. A T-Shirt is free speech.
T-Shirts are the traditional province of stupid crap. I don't have a problem with that. If someone got all up in my face about it I'd get mad though.

3. Usually men who complain about male-bashing. . .
. . . are reacting to women who refuse to take their crap, and refer to those women as "feminazis" because they won't allow the men to grab their asses anymore.

Of course, that doesn't absolve women who DO launch into anti-male tirades (and yes, they're out there). As for suing, it should only be done in instances where someone is deliberately creating a hostile environment and persists even after being told to stop.

it has been used many times for personal vendettas totally unrelated to sexual or gender issues. Companies shit their pants at the first whisper of 'harassment' and impose the most severe injustices on people.

4. Follow the money
People in business are well aware that women do the majority of purchasing in almost every kind of merchandise, including men's underwear and cars. So male bashing greeting cards, commercials, etc. are, in my opinion, simply the cheapest kind of pandering to a target demographic. It's the type of thing they come up with when they're really at a loss for any other ways to appeal to the woman as she serves her "consumption function", as an old professor of mine used to say. It's bottom-of-the-barrel marketing, devoid of imagination.

That is why like adult materials, male bashing should have it's place outside areas where it can offend captive audience -- like work and school.

6. male bashing
goes along with all bashing. and i am not for creating someone less so i can feel bigger, better, smarter, powerful..........

we are all here to be excellent, perfectly imperfect. i am into embracing the grand in male, and the grand in female. when i bash a male, i bash a part of who i am. i bash my brother father sons and husband. i do nothing but create more of the ugly. and i dont chose to live that way

making anyone less just doesnt do it for me. i prefer all own their power and be their best self, it is theirs to do

not mine, i am busy enough doing my life.

9. I don't care about "bashing"..
... whether it is against males, females, or anyone else - particularly if done with humor.

There are no sacred cows - men do stupid things, women do stupid things and making fun of it is probably the least offensive way to point it out.

When I see some chump on a TV commercial made to look the fool, it does not bother me because I don't identify with him. He is a straw man of sorts, there probably are some men like him and if they are, they should become self-aware and change their ways :)

Folks who get all exercised over a dumb-blonde joke or a beer-drinking bubba dumbass joke need to ask themselves - am I the legitimate butt of that joke? If not, mellow out. If so, change or deal with it :)

I think it depends. If a woman posts male-bashing jokes on Usenet, I can reply with blond jokes. BUT, if she wares a male-bashing shirt to school, and I wear a female-bashing one then I am in for SH. And that is very cruel.

You can not be cruel online as we have zero power to hurt anyone online.

A real insult is an insult which can not be answered. If you call me a fool online, I can answer. If my boss calls me a fool, that is cruel and abusive.

20. Let me make myself clear........
making fun of anyone is not my cup of tea. It's wrong, just plain wrong. But I do think we should all have more of a sense of humor about ourselves. I poke fun at myself all the time. But it would be wrong of me to make fun of someone else. Even when done online, I think, is cruel actually.

27. Oh, come on.
'All men should be castrated and all women should be given knives by the government to do the deed. Taxpayer money should be allotted for this cause, and I'd bet John Kerry would go for it.

After forced de-sexualization and the seizing of all firearms by the governemnt, all women will be given guns to keep men in line. There will be a "one strike and you're out" policy regarding male crime: be male and commit any misdemeanor, felony, or even a get a parking ticket, and the Feminine Crime Patrol will hunt you down and kill you. Homosexual men will be given their own Island off the coast of Washington State, and walled up inside, so that they may sodomize each other in relative peace, and out of the view of women. Of course, your taxes will pay for this. Lesbian sex will be the norm, men will be placed in cages and fed nothing but salty gruel, and eventually "maleness" will be bred out of the species via sterilization, forced vasectomies, and the cloning of only females.

By 2100, the only males left on the planet will be those of the "lower" animals.'

Cell17N, this is REALLY what you wanted us to say, isn't it? We gotta stop taking the bait, people.

Welcome to DU. I honestly haven't observed male bashing as some huge fad in America. Are they making t-shirts that say men suck or something?? I don't really care. As a male, I really haven't observed it, and don't look for it. If you could define what you mean by bashing. I don't think telling stupid men jokes is bashing, probably just low grade humor. You consider it cruel in schools where men who bash women are sued for hostile work environment?? In what sense are they bashing?? Sexual harrasment, is sexual harrasment either way you want it, and it IS illegal. I haven't read any articles about a dumb blonde joke has gotten folks sued. If male bashing starts at your school you will sue?? Why are you looking to sue, or be offended?? Just do your school work, and get ready for the next level, don't spend your energies trying to find an area you have been wronged...Kevin.

30. As a male who is a feminist
I think there is bashing both ways, but I think it leans towards more female bashing.

We were having a discussion on gender-neutral language in my english class, and a clearly progressive girl said "I don't want to go all feminist on you all, but..."

Of course I took that example and threw it in the face of everybody to show how slandered that neutral word is and how far the feminist movement still has to go.

I think "throw rocks at boys" is dumb crap, but I have a t-shirt that says BONG on it (like billabong-it freaks out random people i walk by, and i laugh), so i can't really talk...haha.

36. Oh, bullshit, Slink.
"Those who do complain are usually those who are bothered by women asserting themselves, or pointing out the flaws in male behavior or patriarchial societies."

So what you're saying is that I have to endure this Kind of treatment as an atonement for the sins of Henry Tudor. ("WENCH! Give me an HEIR!!")

And how about those who sense a disparity when they watch Tee-Vee and see comercials with slack-faced men shuffling to the store with pictorial shopping lists printed for them by their technical-savvy wives on her new HP printer? Or the dads on sitcoms, who I get the sense are only kept around for their sperm (but who'd want such genetically defective material?).

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm gonna go outside and look for this mythic "Privilege" I'm supposed to have.

I can't speak for other companies, but here at the University, female faculty get paid as much as males, you fix video equipment like I do, you get paid what I do. BCP's are covered, Viagra and Cialis is NOT. you want your tubes tiee, it's covered. Depo-Provera is covered. I don't think penile implants are.
Oh, Breast implants aren't covered, so I guess you're right. It's all just a big patriarchy.

And as a former working single father, let me tell you that the "daddy track" was every bit as career-killing as the Mommy Track is.

See, that's the problem with making sweeping generalizations. Someone's alway there to tell you you're FOS.

I have mostly female friends, and sometimes its very hard to hang out (especially after someone breaks off a relationship). It's very awkward to sit in a room as the only guy, with everyone else talking about how much men suck... it hurts a lot, so I generally end up having to leave, which means that I'm stuck being by my lonesome.

So, yeah, I don't like male-bashing.
