Iraq has a Constituon.
Edited on Mon Mar-01-04 05:08 AM by leftyandproud
Looks like today is their 4th of July...
supposedly it contains freedom of religion, press, and assembly...

though it does say they can "ban laws that violate Islam"
This is the only part that scares me..too inexact

Still, it's a big improvement over what they had before..and seems to be the first document of its kind in the Arab world. Like it or not, this will be played up as a victory for Dumbya.

What is our response?

1. my response
The Constitution won't mean diddly if the government decides to go back to what it was under Saddam when the troops leave. And then Bush will have to eat crow: "Well, yes, we did invade them, destroy the country, kill a number so high we don't even know, install a government, and it turns out that government left them no better off than they were. But go us, really, because we made a lot of pretty explosions."

3. If they shred.............
their constitution like the Chimp has shredded our own, it will be a moot point as to whether they have a constitution or not.

4. is it now US policy to create non-secular Islamic governments?

Seems Bush is in such a hurry to not have Iraq become an election issue he's willing to run the risk Iraq becomes another Iran.

6. What's my response? "Big deal".
So a bunch of Iraqi exile puppets sat down with their US handlers and wrote a document. Without a copy of the document to read, how can anyone comment on the content?
